Can anyone suggest a cheap but good harddrive enclosure that holds at least 3 harddrives? Im really looking for 4 hdd holder, but 3 will be fine. I have looked on newegg and tigerdirect, but they all seem to have extra components that i dont need, like fans, and are very expensive. the one im currently using is an internal harddrive holder that i salvaged out of an old computer.

i am not trying to find a dock for making my (internal) harddrives hotswappable. i want to be able to move all of my harddrives at once, like as if they were all in a box, aka the enclosure

LOL, I would've suggested both of those etailers. You might look into CDW r some other big IT company. I suspect they won't be less money than what Newegg and TD offer. Just tolerate the "extras"?

The item in question is called backplane. There are of course those with or without fans and connectors, usually the fans are needed since the hdd's generates heat and the heat dissipation in a backplane is often smaller due to the construction.

I understand what you need, but you are most likely to find it, if at all, at your Chassis manufacturers site or reseller. The screws must fit the chassi somehow and even if they follow the IDE/SATA standard in regards to the HDD screws, that is another story.

A better solution from Razy60's link would be 5.25" SATA Backplanes for Multiple SATA Hard disk drives - Product Details

Another solution might be using a handmade thing I have seen in some builds.
Purchase steel bands, made for housing construction:
vbimage.php

attach the drives to it and find a way to attach that package to the chassis.
