Solved Multiple BSOD's (Code:124) And Freezes

My computer tends to crash, and freeze after being on for more than an hour a day. I ran Memory Tests, Checked My Internal Wires, and Ran A Hard drive sector check/repair and everything turned out normal. Also all of my drivers are up to date as well as my BIOS.

-MY Q6600 is running on Stock settings and is not overclocked.
-Cooler Master Real Power Pro 750 PSU
-Windows 7 Professional 64bit
-Asus P5Q motherboard
-8gb of OCZ Reaper 1066 DDR2 Memory
-Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB
-Western Digital 640GB Hard Drive
-ThermalTake DuOrb CPU Cooler

I am noticing that I am getting these errors mainly during web browsing and my cursor will freeze up and then crash.

124 bug checks are typically hardware related.

What did you use to test the memory? memtest86+ or the Windows one?

How old is your PSU?

I ran both mem test and the windows one and came up with no errors. I also ran Prime 95and a full chkdsk analysis and repair of sectors and everything came out fine.

My Power Supply is about 5 years old but like I said this error is coming on 99% of the time during web browsing. I am not sure if that is the case but I uploaded all the files needed for those on the forum view in order to help determine what the problem is.

The crash dump isn't pointing to anything obvious (not uncommon for a x124 error).

Apologies for the questions, especially the obvious ones. Sometimes obvious stuff can be overlooked.

How long did you Prime, memtest etc? 1hr, 2, more, less etc? (ie A single pass of memtest is insufficient as is an hour of Prime.)

A Hard drive sector check/repair and everything turned out normal

No errors found at all, or errors were found and then corrected?



In your driver list, I noticed you have a Brother fax/scanner device - have you checked for any updated drivers for that device? If none available, try unplugging the device as an elimination test.

Apart from the Windows AV, Have you run any other AV scans?

If not give E-Set Online scanner a go. Also it wouldn't hurt to give MalwareBytes a run either.

For the 99% of the time browsing, there have been other times the machine also freezes? ie sitting idle

And does the machine always freeze around the hour mark? Or are there days it keeps working without issue?


Which browser are you using? As an elimination test, have you tried another browser? And is Flash up to date etc?



And how long has this freezing been occurring? Since day one of installing Seven on the 21st of January, or more recently. Perhaps after updating or adding a device etc


Was the machine overclocked and recently returned to default, or has it never been overclocked?


And do you allow Windows Update to handle video driver updates, or do you do them manually?




Basically your files aren't screaming "Obvious error!" hence the questions. x124 are buggers to unravel.

I ran a full scan of Malwarebytes and MSE and got no infections.

I ran Prime 95 for 4 hours.

I ran Memtest for two passes

I ran chkdsk through windows and the full test ran upon reboot. The sector check/repair went through all 5 parts (1-5) and the test stated it was completed and the computer rebooted fine.

I used to use Chrome and I had the same issue. I started using Firefox for my default browser for about a month and the BSOD frequencies vary. I get the same problem with Internet Explorer.

I don't know where that Brother driver came from. I currently have a Samsung ALL In One Printer. I have never had a Brother Printer.

My computer used to be overclocked two years ago at 3.2 ghz but I brought it back to stock because I feared heating issues and possible instability. I used to get BSOD as well but not as frequent and the code I got was different. (I forgot what the code was but it was not a 124).

It does not freeze always on the hour mark. Its an average from when my computer if off for a long period of time. Sometimes it happens in 10 minutes or every couple of hours. I thought it was heat but my temps are normal and all of my wires are fine. I even changed my HDD cables and still have the issue.

I update my video card drivers through Nvidia's website and run the installer provided.

The freezes have been occurring since 6 months ago. It stopped for awhile an resumed in more frequency since last week. I have had windows 7 installed since 2010
