Multiple copies of printer created - no change to USB/port

Hi - I have a Dell with a recent upgrade from Vista to Windows 7. Before and after the upgrade, most of the time I print, I end up with multiple copies of the printer and sometimes documents stuck in the print queue. HP F380 printer.

This is a cabled computer (no wifi, BT). No other computers or printers or networks. The USB port is never moved, but it is possible it was moved once, quite a while ago. Not sure if that could set off this chain reaction, even after the Win7 upgrade. If it is possible, can you tell me how to tell the printer/driver which port to assign so it stops?

Back when I had Vista, I did an "uninstall" for the HP Printer and reinstall from HP site for updated drivers. They even had a fix for this problem in Vista and I followed all the steps. At the end of the process I got an error message saying something like HP cannot install this update. Same thing kept happening with the multiple copies of the printer. I upgraded to an authorized version of Windows 7 and the same thing is happening now.

Any help deeply appreciated.

Hello and welcome jjs now we need some system specs please http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/180324-system-info-see-your-system-specs.html

For starters please run these in safe mode if necessary
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/139810-sfc-scannow-run-command-prompt-boot.html

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html < use the /f and /r switches if you have to.

Now I am wondering if you have the right driver for Windows 7 on that machine this is the driver
http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Deskjet-F300-All-in-One-Printer-series/1129389/model/1129390/drivers

PS I should have told you to uninstall the old drivers before doing that one.
Personally I think upgrades cause more problems than anything else - in my own experiences anyway. I would have saved all the data you need and gone for a new OEM of 7 then reinstalled the data - it costs a tad more but worth it. But I am not going to dictate to you what you should just say what I would rather do:)
