Multiple internet connections with no access (wireless adapter)

Here's what happened:

I wanted to set the computer to a static IP of 192.168.0.2. I tried this by going into Network and Sharing Center, clicking Change Adapter Settings, right clicking Wireless Network Connection and selecting Properties, selecting Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and selecting Properties, selecting "Use the Following IP Address" and then setting the IP address and default gateway to the above Ip address, keeping Subnet mask at 255.255.255.0. I set Preferred DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and Alternate to 8.8.4.4.

Well, that didn't work. I lost internet connection immediately. I later realised it was probably because my router had that in the range of auto-assigned addresses.

Anyway, I changed it back to Obtain IP address automatically.

Now I still don't have internet access. I have tried restarting my computer as well as resetting the router.

When I hover over the wireless connections icon, it says I am connected to both my home wifi connection as well as "unidentified network" both with no internet access.

What did you set the gateway to exactly? I have my gateway set to the IP of the router 192.168.1.254.This is the IP I type into a browser address to access the router (yours may be a different number). See pic

I set the default gateway to 192.168.0.2. This was the IP I was trying to set my system to. Is that where I made the mistake? My computer still does not have internet access...

The default gateway IP is fixed. It is the IP of the router and should either be in the router manual or ISP documentation. So if the router is , say, 192.168.0.1 you can assign your devices to use 192.168.0.xxx where xxx = 2-255 - although AFAIK the last few highest values are reserved, so avoid say 250+.

A pc can't have the same IP as the gateway.

Alright, bit of an update...

I was able to regain internet access by setting the wireless adapter back to automatically retrieve local IP and DNS, then rolling back my wireless card drivers, and re-updating again (the driver was already up-to-date). This resulted in my internet working, but I'm still connected to two networks, "MyNetwork" and "MyNetwork 3" (both with internet access).

So, I decided to retry with what I have learned. I accessed my router and altered the DCHP settings so that the range of assigned addresses started at 192.168.0.10. I then went into the IPv4 settings for my wireless card again, and set the IP address to 192.168.0.2, the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0, and the default gateway to 192.168.0.1 (my router's IP). Preferred DNS to 8.8.8.8 and alternate to 8.8.4.4.

Once again, this kicked my system off of the internet permanently, even after reverting to the previous settings on both my wireless card and the router. It was only fixed by, again, rolling back my drivers and then re-updating them, and now I have an internet connection, but am still connected to two networks.

What's going on that I'm not seeing? It sort of maybe makes sense to me that when I try to set a static IP, I lose connection (maybe I'm doing something wrong there) but why does it permanently kick me off like that? And for that matter, why isn't it working in the first place?

I have installed a new router with new network credentials, but my computer still connects to two networks at once. The second network is now just "Unidentified network" all the time.

Setting a static local IP still does not work. Anyone have any ideas?
