I purchased a new Lenovo desktop PC about 3 weeks ago, and I am encountering multiple problems:
1. Cannot install Visual Studio (or C#, or C++ or Visual Basic) : always ends with an error 1935 (VC90 runtime error).
2. Keep getting updates for the same update (KB2676562 and KB2679255) - has been installed daily for last 2 weeks. Also show succesfull install on Windows Update.
3. IE9 loses it tab settings daily. I need to reset daily to get the tabs running correctly.
4. In trying to fix, I find I cannot run SFC /scannow (Windows resourceProtection could not perform requested operation)

All steps I have taken thusfar has been using Administrator login.

My system:
Lenovo Windows7 PC, Intel G620, 2.6GHz, 4gB memory
Windows 7 SP1 x64 (6.1.7601)
Internet Explorer 9.0.8112
MS .NET Framework 4.5
Malwarebytes updated and clean.
AVG Free updated and clean.
Hotfix KB947821 applied
Fixit run
Windows Firewall disabled.
Windows Defender turned off

Also tried to resolve ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT without success.

Any clues?
Thank you so much. (Maybe I should go and buy a Mac)

Hello shadow99 and welcome to Seven Forums.

The fact that SFC comes back with the "Windows resourceProtection could not perform requested operation" message, as well as all the other issues you're having, would seem to indicate some serious system file damage or corruption on the machine. Since the Lenovo is only 3 weeks old, I think I'd restore it to factory specs using the recovery partition (or recovery disks you hopefully made.)

I'd set Windows Updates to "never download/install" and manually install updates starting with SP1 if it's not already on your computer. Then I'd manually begin installing Critical/Important updates just a few at a time (maybe 5 or 10.) Keep track of the KB numbers and reboot your computer after installing each group of 5 or 10. If any issues are noted, you'll know exactly which group of updates has the problem update(s). Uninstall the entire group then reinstall one at a time. They'll either all install without problem or you'll know exactly which update is the problem. Leave that update until last and continue installing the next group. Do the same with Security updates, Optional updates, etc. A few at a time and rebooting is a lot slower but usually has a better chance of succeeding.

After getting the updates installed, I suggest installing your antivirus suite of choice. Many people recommend Microsoft Security Essentials. It doesn't use much in the way of resources and because it's from Microsoft it runs well on Microsoft's operating systems.

@marsmimar
Thank you very much for the advice. Did what you suggested, and my system now seems to be stable.
In rebuilding, McAfee was automatically installed - seems to be part of the Lenovo OEM Win 7 build. Uninstalled
that beast and installed MS Security Essentials. Ran SFC /scannow, I checked all the updates and all seems to
be fine. IE9 problem also solved.
Now ready to tackle the installation of Visual Studio, etc.
Thanks again.

That's certainly good news, shadow. Fingers crossed for Visual Studio..
