Folks,

I tried searching for my problem in the forum but could not really find a suitable help...Hence posting it as a new thread.

For the last 2-3 weeks, My Dell inspiron 1525 has started crashing randomly multiple times a day for no apparent reason...The entry in the event log does not say much and is attached at the end of the thread...

Not sure if this is connected or not but a 3-4 weeks back I started getting windows genuineness validation message...Can their be any link?

Sometimes, while working on it, it just switches off and while many times, leave it for 30-40 minutes and boom it goes off....power options are all configured to 'never'....

Please provide any direction to help me resolve this...What trace or log I can run or provide in this forum?

What version of win 7 are you running (7100,7600)?

Windows 7 Ultimate (Version 6.1 Build 7600).....

One more thing to mention - along with some shutdowns while working, whenever I leave the computer idle for sometime (with download or work happening in the background) then within a few minutes, It goes down...Not sure if this piece of info helps but just thought to add...

Moreover, there is no minidump created during this sudden shutdown hence I did not attach it here...only attached associated event information.

I don't want to format and rebuild everything because of too many things to setup - windows, office, various softwares etc.

Please help with your expert tips to trace and fix the problem.

random sudden shutdown started w/ my Win 7 Ultimate too

sudden shut down started a few days ago. Very frustrating because nothing you are working on got saved.
i sent it to Fujitsu tech service to check hardware. they said it is software.

so i reinstalled my win 7, office, and all the other software and driver. 2 days worth of getting everything back in my computer, boom, it shut down again!!

i am going crazy!!

is this something that happens to Win7 Ultimate???

where did you get your copy of windows from?

dell no longer sell that laptop, so i am assuming that it came with Vista/XP? can you please open a command prompt window and tell us what build number it reports at the top? for instance, mine says: Microsoft Windows [version 6.1.7600]

It sounds like you are running the RC version ( 7100 ) of Windows 7 which has expired, which explains the shutdowns and data loss... You will need to purchase the RTM version ( 7600 ) and reinstall..

Sudden death of win 7

i have not tried it in safe mode yet. it usually takes about 3~6 hours into operation before it shuts down.

I got my Win 7 at Microsoft HQ store. it's version 6.1.7600

My laptop is not dell, it's Fujitsu Lifebook s6520, bought it about a year ago loaded with Vista Business.

hi,

I also had the problem of random shutdowns, so I checked the internet and found someone talking about the possibillity that these shutdowns could have to do with heat problems.
So I checked my rig:
first I placed the hard disk in the cool air flow, then I checked the processor ( I still have a Pentium 4 Prescott - it's hot!) and its fan. I released the four screws that held the fan to the heatsink and discovered a whole lotta dust which prevented the processor of being "chilled" in a proper way.
After a careful treatment with the vacuumcleaner I put the fan back and now I don't have unexpected shutdowns (3 times per day) anymore, for over a week!!!!!
And my computer makes a whole lotta hours..........

Hope this will help someone!

;)

hey, I think that IS the problem.
I air sprayed my vent and it has not experienced "sudden death" so far....
thx.
