Hello, story continues

I did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 full version.
I choose advanced drive options
I deleted all partitions from both HDD's
I formated HDD1
I selected HDD1 to install Windows 7 on
Then I finished install normally

Very weird, but after installing Windows 7, it places System on my second HDD, while I did not select that HDD.

Below is te image from the disk manager.

I think this is the way Windows 7 is designed?

I hope someone can explain me more.

Thanks for your support.

I have checked the BIOS boot order.

Turned Laptop off and on.
F2, entered setup BIOS
Boot Sequence:
1. Internal HDD
2. CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive
(other drives and options no number before, means not boot-able)

Each HDD has its own active partition. Bios went looking for them. The HDD with "system" partition is the first one bios found out of the HDDs. That's why it it made it "system."

Have you tried reformatting the secondary drive from inside Windows?

Here's what I would do...

Disconnect power to the secondary drive
Reformat and reinstall Windows 7 on the primary drive
Reconnect the secondary drive and reformat from inside Windows 7

This will force windows to use the primary drive for ALL actions during install so it won't try and place something critical on the secondary drive.

I still do not understand how windows 7 installed the system partition on disk 0.
And installed the boot partition on disk 1.
When I installed Windows 7, I did instruct the setup,to delete partitions on disk 0 and disk 1.
Then I instructed the setup to install Windows 7 on disk 0.

As far as I know, I don't have special settings in the BIOS.

Below a screen dump of how Windows 7 installed itself.


I hope someone can make me understand what is going on.

I now understand the system partition is always installed on the first active partition, in my case disk 0.

What I still like to understand is, why does it install the boot partition (Windows 7) on my disk 1? Is this to make the computer easier to recover in case of a failure?

I don't see anything wrong with what Windows did with the partitions based on your screenshot. I wouldn't say that is ideal but it works... If you don't like it disable the hard drives you don't want Windows to see during install. (i.e. remove power to them until install is complete) I've uploaded a shot of what my drive configuration looks like in my PC.
