I just pulled out and dusted off my new laptop that I bought back in July, that I never use...lol. It's a samsung RV511 here's is link to specifications.

RV511-A01 Notebook | Samsung Office RV511-A01 Notebook

I just noticed that I have multiple network connections. Several wired and wireless. I know that the laptop is supposed to have a wired/wireless connection but 5 of them. I have switched out modem/router but should that make a difference.

You don't actually have 5 nics, what you are seeing are 5 different connections that were made. When ever you delete/reinstall a network connection Windows shows a new connection, you can delete them and even rename them if you want.
