Hi Guys,
Have just got a new Samsung p560 Laptop and installed Windows 7 Ultimate on it which is running super fast and has a great graphics resolution on the screen (1680x1050)..

But when i plug in a second screen, the laptop screen "mimics" the external monitor - ie if i plug in a 4:3 screen the laptop screen changes size to match, plug in a wide screen monitor, my screen stays the same...

But both screens are the same... Now my old HP laptop used to remember how the screen was last plugged in and remember the settings as i like my desktop extended when i have a screen attached (2 screens )

So is there a way of making Windows 7 force an extended desktop?

Thanks guys

Try updating the display driver on your laptop. Then see if the option for extended displays appears.

I had this problem with my laptop as well. My monitor is a diff ratio than my laptop I think 16:9 vs. 16:10 for my laptop.

The only way I could get it to work was to close the laptop lid and use just the external monitor as primary. then open the laptop lid and extend the desktop to the laptop monitor.

I could never get the setup to work with the laptop lid open. and I couldnt get it to work as the laptop as primary monitor.

so My external monitor is my primary and the laptop monitor is the extended

The option for extended screen is there, but thats not my problem...

Once the screen is plugged in and i set it to extend my desktop, it works fine... but when i go home and plug back in the next day i have to edit the settings and select the extended desktop option again - rather than it defaulting to how it was last used.

is there a way of automatically extending the desktop when the external screen is connected?

And the problem where the onboard monitor changes to match the external monitor - only seems to occur on the 4:3 screens not any of the wide screens i have.
so im guessing this is limited to having different ratio screens...
