Multitasking while backup performing?

Hello all, I was formatting a internal hdd that I have docked as an external through esata when it got corrupted and I managed to repair with chkdsk and sfc. Which got me concerned about something regarding the backup process. Is it ok to do other things like surf the net or anything else for that matter while it's performing a backup or can this potentially cause a corruption during the backup?

Most backup system including windows own take a snapshot of the drive contents at the start of the backup. There is no problem doing normal day to day computing while the backup is saving. I wouldn't do anything very heavy as that would slow it down.

FWIW my concerns about the integrity of backups is such that I don't even do them from Windows. I make backup images only after booting the PC from the image program's boot disc (USB stick actually), where of course Windows isn't even running.

I really don't think that is necessary any more. Windows backup is designed to operate off a running system as are most other modern backup suites.

I have made countless images with the OS running. This the normal and generally only way to image with Windows inbuilt imaging and Macrium which I used.
I have restored in excess of 20 full images and never had a problem.

Although probably not absolutely necessary, I give the imaging process free reign and don't run any app during imaging. I also put my anti malware in silent mode.

I make images all the time while surfing the net and stuff and it hasn't made a bit of difference. I just avoid heavy tasks..

Well I had to RMA that HDD, WD diag tool found too many bad sectors. Good thing it was only my backup drive. But now I have no backup until the new drive gets to me. Irritating to say the least. I kept getting corruption and every time I did SFC /scannow it would give me the same repaired file. CBS file. So I wiped the drive and back to newegg.
