I'm not really sure if this is a hardware or software issue.

I got the soundtrack for Season Four of Battlestar Galactica for Xmas. The first disk works perfectly. When I put the second one in, my disk drive fails to recognize it most of the time. And when it does recognize it, the music skips and it won't rip. I thought it was a problem with the disk itself, but when I got a replacement it did the same thing. And as it turns out, it does the exact same thing when I put one of my other CDs in the disk drive. The music skips and it won't rip.

Interestingly enough, some albums will play and rip perfectly. Others won't. This never happened before I upgraded to Windows 7 (although, I still had the problem with the second BSG disk). Either it's a problem with Windows Media Player, or my disk drive. I think it's the latter.

I think I need a new sound card, anyways, but I don't think that's the problem.

My first guess would be the DVD/CD/BD drive itself.

The sound card would have no effect on reading the disc.

I have a DVD drive. It worked fine before. Maybe my father messed up the connection when he vacuumed it out recently (no other way of cleaning it).
