Must nominate which HDD to boot from every time

On the other PC (not this one but similar slightly better stats) when STARTING UP first stop is always the Bios Screen where one must nominate which HDD to boot from.

All I seem to be able to do is click the correct HDD and win7 starts. Cannot get it to remember the instruction. "Ground-hog Day syndrome".

First job is replace CMOS battery in case it's not holding because battery dead

Go into the BIOS menu and look at the boot options. Depending upon the options you might be able to select a default hard drive and set a time out. If it can boot from any port then it will always give you the option of selecting your hard drive but you should be at least able to select a default boot drive.

You don't say... but typically, I'm going to assume that you have a motherboard with multiple SATA ports on it. If you want ONE HD to boot up your PC by default, that HD's data cable should be plugged into SATA port 0 (zero) on the mobo. Most motherboards do have their SATA ports labeled Zero thru ????

On my own motherboard, I can press the F12 key during the first few seconds after Power ON, and then I'll get a boot menu so I can boot up from different devices, like CD, Flash Drive, etc.

If your BIOS has become confused, maybe because of a weak CMOS battery, you can force it to do a full reset by: Removing all power from the system, then remove the CMOS battery, if the little battery checks out less than 3.0 vdc on a digital Volt Meter, it should be replaced with a new battery. The typical battery for most PC's today, is a CR-2032.
Whether you're replacing the battery or not, leave it out for at least 30 minutes, before re-installing it and restoring the Power to your system. Then on first boot, you'll need to go into the CMOS and reset your time and date, default boot device, etc. It may just be easier, to get started to just press the button that will set your CMOS to Factory (Safe) Defaults.
