From what I read, the thing seems to be pre-rooted. That would be good. You need to get to the apps stores. Since they sell it on Amazon, you may get to the Amazon app store. The Google playstore is apprently preinstalled. Without apps, there is little you can do with the tablet.

Look into your apps (the arrow in the picture points to the apps icon which I think in your case is in the top right of the screen) whether you have anything Amazon apps store or Google Playstore. If yes, get back and I'll tell you what to do.

The closest I know is the Curtis Klu. It has the same 4.0.4 Android. Get the user manual from here: http://www.curtisint.com/html/custservice/manuals/CUR_LT7033_ENFR.PDF That may give you the first tips.

Let me know what kinds of things you like to do and I will try to point you to the right app on the Google Playstore (if I can). There are some really nifty ones for e.g. Navigation (if you have GPS), Free Phone calls, a very good Office package, an application to watch old shows, etc.

Note that I do not play games. So in that department I cannot help.

I went through the Google Playstore last night and tried downloading a game since it was free. It was 5 mb but after five minutes it was still downloading, so I gave up. Should it take that long? As far as things I like, I don't play games too much. I do like old TV shows, current events and political things. The Google Playstore was built in, how would I go to the Amazon store and look at their apps? What about the Seven Forums app? How would I d/l that?

I went through the Google Playstore last night and tried downloading a game since it was free. It was 5 mb but after five minutes it was still downloading, so I gave up. Should it take that long? As far as things I like, I don't play games too much. I do like old TV shows, current events and political things. The Google Playstore was built in, how would I go to the Amazon store and look at their apps? What about the Seven Forums app? How would I d/l that?

Sign in to the Google Playstore from the PC. You can download the apps from there. It will also tell you immediately whether the app is compatible with your device. It downloads when the tablet is on or the next time you turn it on. You should see a little arrow in the notification area - bottom right on the screen.

5 minutes is long. Maybe it was looking for your micro SD card (which you did not put in ??). If you get a micro SD card, get a 16GB or 32GB model. That is the only real storage space you have.

The Amazon apps store has less stuff. First you have to establish an account with them (use the PC). Then you need the Amazon app. I remember with them it was quite complicated. I had to call their very helpful customer support to get it going.

For TV shows, I use 'Watch TV' and 'Crackle'. For News, put 'News apps' into the Google Playstore search. All major networks and newspapers have apps. But for streaming anything you need the Adobe Flash Player. Most browsers do no more work with Flash. The only one I found is 'Boat'. It is a very good browser.

To get to the sevenforums, use any old browser - e.g. Chrome or Opera mobile or Firefox or Dolphin.

I use chrome and it saves your tabs for quick launch also if it is pre rooted then you can defently use file system programs and even download extra settings that aren't listed in the menu i did this last night
The app is called Settings extended and also use Sandisk Memory zone it will give you detailed info on the SD and all the bells and whistles you need and suggest getting Droid wall too it is a firewall that will keep you pretty cool when people are trying to exploit your tablet

I just found how you setup Flash in Boat. Go to: Settings > Page Content Settings > Enable Flash/Plug Ins

I have seen a Class 4 and a Class 6 and probably a few others. What do these mean and how do I know what mine uses? Is a 16 GB plenty big to buy? Thanks,

The higher the class the better(faster) and make sure you do a full format Fat32 on it before downloading apps.
I don't use the micro sd as they seem to cause more problems. I have one 8Gb and one 16Gb class 10 sd's.
On my Thrive 10 Tablet I have full size ports so I am not sure what yours comes with.

PS: I have not heard of any problems with micro SD cards like THW says.

Quite a few problems with Micro SD's with the Toshiba Thrive 10.1 Tablet.
At least that's what are posted in the Toshiba Thrive Forum but may not be the case for other 7" Tablets.

Yeah, that may be specific to that Toshiba tablet. I used a micro SD card myself for a while on a Curtis Klu (another cheap $69 tablet) and had no problems. That Klu was a present for someone.
