My computer Overheating

Thanks, I had tried the latest Dell drivers and they never fixed the problem. However I did just think to go straight to NVidia's site and get their version. Works great now, can't believe it took me this long to figure that out! haha.

I know this thread is old, I have the same laptop and had the same problem with crazy high temps. I found a bit of a drastic solution, but it works very well. I took the laptop apart and removed the heatsink from the mainboard. In doing so I noticed two things:

1. The thermal compound was in very bad condition. All crusty. I scraped it all off and replaced it on both the cpu and the graphics chip with some prolimatech TK-1.
2. The heatsink did not make good contact with the graphics chip. I fixed this with my trusty leatherman multitool by slightly reshaping the heatpipe to make it contact the chip better.

After this my temps went down considerably, but I wasn't satisfied. I also undervolted my cpu using RMClock according to this thread: The "Undervolting" Guide

My Core2Duo T6500 is fully stable at minimum voltage on all clocks. Temps are as follows:
CPU Idle - 36C; load 51C
GPU Idle - 42C; load 59C (GeForce 9400M Go)
