MY computer will not handshake with my HDTV using the HDMI port

I have an ATI radeon hd 4290 with HDMI port and I just bought a HDMI cable to hook to my HDTV but it will not output anything to my HDTV. If I go to control panel and choose detect monitors most of the time it won't detect anything and sometimes I get monitor 1 and 2 on the screen and I press apply and and my screen one goes black and my HDTV stays black also. I thought it could be the cable but I already tested the cable using my laptop and it works just fine running windows 8. Has anyone experienced this type of issue with radeon cards?

idude mate it might be too obvious but are you choosing the correct input on the HDTV?? Mine has 2 x HDMI inputs and I am guessing maybe yours has too. So just check with the TV input listings as in the digital AV and HDMI inputs and see just what you have got.

Yes, I'm aware of that, I've got 5 of them on mine. Something is wrong with the hdmi on my computer, it messed up the sound on the tv and I had to leave it unplugged for 12 hours to completely drain it from any energy and that fixed it, my god.

Hmm idude not the answer I was expecting as I am at a loss as to why it needed to drain energy??

I don't know what the board is you have but it might be an idea to download the latest drivers from the Biostar site

john ,it was the hd tv that had to drain the energy before the sound would come back, at least thats how i read it.
sfc/scan will not work on the tv

Yep I sought of guessed that mate I meant the machine for the scans but I ma still puzzled as to why the TV had to "power down" that indicates to me the particular circuit involved in the TV has some large electrolytic cap or caps in it

Now the card it doesn't say what it is or the board so I am suggesting maybe an update on the drivers for them might be in order can you let us know what model the Biostar is and the card please?

I'm suspect that Radeon 4290 video card is too weak to handle your PC duties and a HDTV.

^That says it is integrated and has 128megs of it's own RAM.
