Solved My connection to the internet died after a computer restart today

I am not good with computers, so that is out of the way.

I have an HP Pavilion dm1 Notebook PC with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Earlier today I was downloading a patch to the game League of Legends, however, it was failing so I restarted the computer.

The next thing I knew, the computer could no longer connect to the internet. I have been using the troubleshooter, occasionally it says "The default gateway is not available."

I have tried following instructions from one other forum, which in a nutshell was going to Start>Control Panel>View Network Status and Tasks>Manage Wireless Networks> and deleting everything in that list.

A System Restore sometimes comes really handy, have you tried this yet? Restore it when it was working, I hope that you have a restore point.

System Restore

I tried restoring the system to time before the internet stopped connecting but nothing changed.

Have you tried resetting your Cable modem & router ?

I just tried. I pressed and quickly released the reset button with a pen. Other computers in the house can still connect, it's only mine that's failing.

I used the trouble shooter again and this time it says, "Problem with wireless adapter or access point."

You might want to consider uninstalling/re-installing the Wi-Fi device driver from Device Manager. Before you do this, download the latest driver from the manufacturer's site then update the driver. This Tutorial might be of helped.

Also, when you're done with the driver's update and it didn't resolve your issue please post an ipconfig /all for review.

What type of Security Software are you using?

The computer connected fine to the internet at a friend's house. I may be paranoid but would it be possible for an aggravated brother to somehow block my computer from connecting? I'm sure he knows at least a little more about computers than I do.

Since the computer connected at another house, is it still necessary to uninstall/reinstall the Wi-Fi device driver?

Edit: I used to have Norton but the only time I used the internet on this computer was to play games so I haven't paid to renew it. I didn't think I was under much of a threat. I haven't had it for several months now.

Edit2: I have a feeling that, if it was tampered with, the access password was changed for the network. I got on my dad's computer (a mac), which connects to a different network, and tried connecting to the network that has been failing for me. His Wi-Fi indicated that I was using an invalid password, despite complete confidence that it was the same password I had used in the past. If the password was changed, how would I change it back?

Also, I apologize for not providing as much of the relevant information as what is probably the norm. This is a very frustrating problem so I'm not going about trying to fix it with the clearest of heads. But thank you all for helping.

If you are using a wrong security pass-phrase you won't able to add your home SSID from your computer it will deny you.
Are you talking about the router's LogIn Credential or the security encryption or pass-phrase to connect to your router?

If the password was changed, how would I change it back?
the access password was changed for the network.*

Had to restart a secondary modem that was connected via one of the LAN jacks to the main one that I had already tried restarting.
