Today I ran xxclone to clone my spare drive and all went well. This afternoon I went to shutdown and it logged off, the shutting down window displayed and then it just sat there fat, dumb and unhappy. I can shut it down with the button, but that's to old fashion way.

After reading reams of posts here and elsewhere it seem like this problem is completely baffled the entire guru population because I have tried many remedies with no success. The typical "fix it" MS routines says nothing is wrong. sfc /scannow has no errors. In fact everything I do draws a blank.

Now. I've been there, done that for 57 years wit these computers and their predecessors, and with a window with "shuting down" on it tells me nothing, even if I look at the logs. Maybe my PC has developed a hardware ill?

Well, after running a couple malware and Nortons and anything else in my scan locker, safe mode of course, nothing shows up. So it doesn't appear to be one of the psychotic hackers, so either some driver or small routine that tells the supply to power down, maybe I have a hardware problem. The PC works fine with no apparent problems, except it will not shutdown the normal way; the button work fine.

Guess my 6 year old eMachine needs Delling.

How long does it take to factory restore? Just asking?

Well, guess my posts are boring. Replaced hard drive with clone and after tweaking up the problem went away. Even in safe mode and deep scanning I found no psychotic hacker finger prints. All works well now so I'm making a clone of the clone and will use the old drive as a backup.
