My Experience after 1 Year of using MS Security Essentials

Well, after cca. one year MSE found no virus at all.
I was using kaspersky before, more then 5 yrs. but it takes so many resources and slows down my comp so I've changed it for MSE which is pretty lightweight.

True, I'm not waching porn on the net nor I download pirate stuff and I'm pretty cerful while browsing, using "No-script" thing in firefox and that may be why MSE didn't show it's alerts so far.
Also I'm pretty sure I don't have any kind of worm on my comp and that's most important heh.

what is your experience with MSE?
did MSE alert you about threat's so far? and how many times?

in this opportunity I'm going to ask:
Where can we check on how offten Microsoft releases AV signatures?
for example on kaspersky.com you may see everyday's new signatures and new discovered worms

MSE has always worked good for me, the college runs McFubar and MSE regularly detected things that wound up on my FD the other AV let through.

MSE releases new definitions 2 or 3 times a day. Just hit the "update" button a couple times a day & you'll be up to date. Should you forget to update for a bit, the icon will turn orange to alert you you should update.

I haven't had a single issue with it, but like you, I am careful about what I browse for and all that good stuff.I've been using it since it was released pretty much.

Common sense is the best companion to an AV, no matter which one it is.

Ive had 2 pieces of malware turn it off before. Im not sure its ready for prime time without something like Sandboxie to help protect it.

I specifically used it to test a hard drive which I knew was carrying multiple infected files, and it found none of them.

NOD32, on the other hand, found and eliminated all the infections, and it was over a dozen.

You can pick up a drive-by virus on any website where malicious code's been injected, it's not simply porn or warez sites where you get infections.

I've had only one infection with it, after over two years of no problems. Unfortunately it was a bad one, which caused me to end up reinstalling Windows. Since then I've purchased the paid for version of MBAM and run it along side MSE. It's a real good setup.

I like MSE only cos it's lightweight so my processor and fans are always pretty quiet.(I like that verry much)

if any serious problems arrive I boot into Kaspersky rescue USB, scan whole HD and that's it

I have had a few false positives with MSE, but nothing else. Other than that, though, it was a horribly misbehaving application. It would scan at odd times, when it wasn't scheduled, and while the machine was not idle. I turned off idle scanning and scheduled scanning, and it still would run full scans at random times. Eventually it got to the point where it pretty much constantly was scanning 24/7, whether the machine was idle or not. Even when I disabled the service, it would still somehow kick on and scan. All the hard drive racket was pissing me off since I live in a small place and the machine is pretty much right next to my bed. I finally had to uninstall it just to get some peace and quiet.

I've been using MSE for a month now, and I have zero problems with it. A great antivirus.
