Since it is still powering on and spinning up, try using another USB data cable and if that's not it then I'd try removing the HDD from the enclosure and putting that inside of a desktop to check if the drive is being recognized by BIOS at all (and while you're doing that, try not to touch the drive anywhere other than on the sides). Other than that, I don't think there's anything else you can do. If its not being recognized even in the BIOS while that drive is installed in the tower, you won't be able to perform chkdsk or anything else to try and fix it.

Also, I believe most external HDD's use the same cable as printers do (both of mine do) so if you don't have a spare but have a printer, use it's cable to test the drive still in the enclosure.

An update to my issu :

On my Windows 7 running on Dell Inspiron 1520, In Device manager i saw some yellow icons in Universal Serial Bus controllers, and by disabling and reanablin them, the device showed up in my computer, it demanded a fix, i performed and now i can use it with no problems.

But on my XP running on a not much new PC, the device is recognised in device manager, even the icon of safely remove it appears in task bar and even i can open its contents using Tune Up Disk Explorer, but just it does not show up in My Computer.

I wonder that whatever the hardware of my PC is, it had no problems before with disc external hard but just recently.

Thanks for the help !
