Hi..Hopefully I can get some help on the General discussion Forum.
Heres my position ..My whole computer life has been on XP til things got so bad i was talked into installing Windows Ultimate 7 x86....
Now what i did was I put in a new 1T HDD and partitioned it in half ...I put a fresh install of XP on one half but it never went well....and I installed Windows Ultimate 7 on the other half ......I also kept the HDD with my original XP on it and its my E drive.. My idea was that maybe that could help me with loading programs ,and email etc over onto Windows 7.....

Anyway Windows 7 is installed....I used Thunderbird as an email client for my two Gmail accounts...was that wise?
BUT my main problem is SKYPE...I have a friend in Canada who helps me with my pC via Skype and Team viewer...BUT I just cannot install Skype on my W7....I think I know my user name but not my password and when I tried to contact them they had an email address 5 years out of date so verification was impossible...
SO
Skype is Still on my E Drive ....Is there anyway I could confirm my user name and my password from it ...??? over to my C DRive (w7) and retrieve messages from my friend and myself...He is not replying to emails ....
I am old and really struggling with the change although It had to be done ...and so far Windows 7 has been great....apart from "please wait" which turned out a very long wait...After sleeping I woke up to my PC having being shutdown but on booting up the "please wait" was gone???
Hoping some one can help me with my Skype... Thanks Ron

Hi Ron, welcome to SevenForums!

Yes, changes are not easy - hold on, you'll get used to it or may even begin to like Windows 7. The "Please wait" screens are most likely just Windows installing updates.

As for recovering the username+password from your Windows XP Skype to new Windows 7 - I believe Microsoft stopped updating Skype for Windows XP a long time ago, considering XP's support ended in April 2014. So, you will be running an older version there.

What I used to do in the past, was to copy the Skype's folder from C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\ and transfer it to the new Windows installation, and it would continue to keep me logged in. However, this isn't the case on the new versions of Skype - they will ask you to log in. So, I'm afraid we are out of luck on this one. If you look inside that Skype folder, you will find a folder with your username as its name.

If you no longer have access to the email address you used to register that Skype account with, I'm afraid Microsoft just isn't going to be willing to reset the password for you.

However, it's not all bad - there is a program that will allow you to view and (I believe) export your chats/messages and contacts! It's called Skyperious, and you can get it there - Skyperious | Downloads

I'm afraid you will have to create a new Microsoft account to use with Skype (they no longer allow creating just Skype accounts - I personally hate this change) you can create a new account here - Skype | Communication tool for free calls and chat (in the top right corner of the webpage, click on "Sign in" - a drop down menu will appear - choose the third option - "Sign up")

Can you just disconnect the new drive, connect your old one as primary (as you say you still have it and haven't wiped it) and just boot your old XP back up? Can you reset your own PW from within Skype that way?
