My folder view settings have changed. How do I put them back?

I recently installed an old game. I'm running Win 7 Pro x64 and the game was for XP. I messed with the compatibility settings and I think something went wrong. The folder icons have changed everywhere but on the desktop. The desktop shows the regular aero styled icons. Everywhere else the folder icons are some dumbed-down picture that looks low tech even for XP. Its bright yellow and has no 3D effects. To make it even more frustrating, it only does this when the view is set to details, list, or small icons, which are the only views I ever use. What button did I push and how can I fix this?

That's not it. The folders it's displaying technically are default, they're just off-theme. I've tried messing with the various themes, but it doesn't work. When I make new folders on the desktop, they are also off-theme. All of my old folders that are on the desktop are unaffected, but their contents and new folders are wrong. It's not a matter of restoring defaults. Somehow the theme was partially messed up.
PS: I have already tried restarting my PC.

Welcome to Seven Forums halfg33k. I'd start with running the System File Checker. You will have to reapply any customizations you might have made again after, including patching for 3rd party themes if that applies.
