I highly regret moving on to Win 7--the ease of using XP and vista are gone- somebody had the heads up thier butts when they thought such changes would be for the good. Not sure I really want to know how to do the things that were so easy before and really dont even know where to start with my issues.

Gone-- internal modem( I know that is a problem with ASUS not win 7)
not working- a window asking what I want to do when i insert a music CD or a dvd,
Went to a wifi hot spot and could not get on line
tried to add music to my files-- no luck.
Ans THIS is how windows improved-- REALLY???

and where is the 'Help' options -- that is nowhere to be found either-- what a load of crap

IMHO..............There is nothing wrong with Windows 7 as long as you know to update all driver's from their respective sites.

If you have questions or problems this is the best forum to get immediate help from.
We have great tutorials and a great staff that are eager to help you.............Just ask!
There is NO Perfect OS and the likelihood of that happening are slim to none as they are all designed by humans.

ASUS U52F-BBL5 Refurbished Notebook PC - Intel Core i3-350M 2.3GHz, 4GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, DVDRW, 15.6" Display, Windows 7 Home Premium (F12-150023)

I have always gotten my PCs used- old and mostly free- 1st one was win 98 and the last had vista and I had no probs going it it from XP_ new PCs do not come w/ a wriiten manual but if I can not click on HELP or even go on-line this becomes a Catch 22-- Thank God for forums like this.

your assistance will be appreciated(btw I still live in the dark ages as all I can afford at home is dial-up--lol)

If you want help, at least put some effort into describing the problems. Modems are still supported, and most have drivers built-in. However, this is 2011, so modems aren't used that much anymore. If you couldn't connect to a wi-fi hot spot, that's the fault of drivers, or you not knowing the security passcode.

You tried to add music to your files? That isn't helpful to us at all. Were you just trying to copy music files to your new computer? Give us some details, and we could try to help.

The choice is yours. You can go one of two paths. The common path is to make a ridiculous rant proving you don't understand how to use your computer and blame Microsoft, or the second, less common path....you drop the attitude, learn where to direct your frustration, and help us help you get through the issues.

Windows 7 is a fine OS, and the best one we've had to date.

We're always willing to help here, but not to people who closed their mind to what's really going on and wish to just bash Windows 7. Cool down, detail the problems for us, and you'll see how good Windows 7 really is.

Give us a problem and we'll do our best to fix it.

Give us a rant and our eyes glaze over.

Windows 7 is the best operating system to have come from Bill Gate's mob and for the first time since I bought a PC I'm not spending ages fixing local area networks, shared printers and the like - Windows 7 just does it.

So, take a deep breath and tell us what the problems REALLY are and you'll get all the help you need.

The rep button is the scales at the top-right of your comment text box, those that help you will appreciate the thanks. ;)

Now we're getting somewhere. They also may not be your fault, either. They could be from bad or missing drivers, hardware issues, etc.

My suggestion is this. Make a numbered list with each problem you mentioned, and give as much detail as you can. Then we'll go from there and try to get each one resolved.

You mentioned CD/DVD Autoplay - Start>Default Programs>Change AutoPlay Settings will take of that one.

Ok when I power up I get the Express gate w/ 6 choices-- F1 does not do anything.

Plz keep in mind that this is my first new laptop- and that I cannot go on-line until I buy a external modem- which are hard to find in stores theses days- I have tried.

The Start is not there-- no desk top either- just the Gate

ah Express Gate

this is an alternate OS that comes with Asus Laptops

For the most part nowadays it is useless. It was designed as a quick way to access things, but computers are much faster now.

There should be a button to exit to OS

That will take you into windows

On this ASUS there seems to be two power up buttons one on each side at the top rt and left. With Gate on the screen when I press the one on the right it just shuts down.

Ok found that -now resuming windows - there is an ADmin box in center 'logged on' what next plz--(sorry again for rant--my bad fellers!)

when I click on that i get "your account has been disabled. Please seeyr system admin"

The Gate? That's not something I'm aware of.

Is it something similar to Dell's Dock?
