Solved My new Bulldozer has shipped.

Yeah when looking at a new mobo and cpu then other options are a must to entertain.

A new motherboard is not an absolute requirement, since mine is supposed to handle it after being flashed to the latest BIOS, but since it doesn't handle my current CPU very well, I'm not all that confident that it would handle the Bulldozer well either.

I suppose that I could cross my fingers and hope that it would work properly, but I'm not very good at that sort of thing.

Still challenged to get the ram to full 2133 but my chip has been all over the OC map. I'm back down to 4.0 currently with the ram at 1832. Getting excellent response and so far so stable. It's when I try to get the chip and ram higher when I run into trouble. Plus in the bios I can up the CPU voltage to 1.44-1.45 but it doesnt show near that high in CPUZ or MIS? odd, should I bump it till it shows at a 1.44v in CPUZ or trust the bios?

you are getting v droop cpu-z will show lower due to the droop there are pll setting's that stabalize the droop i played with it but didnt want to fiddle to much don't worry about it

just make sure if you get a droop to low that will cause a bsod you will have to increase the v-core to compensate just see where it is stable at the highest oc then back off some v-core and see where you land then walla you will know where to clock it without increasing more heat even though this chip can take it

Man I hate the droop ! lol I boosted the bios vcore to 1.603 and I'm showing 1.456 @ 4466mhz cpu w/1832mhz ram.
I was nervous to hit this level but temps are mild and I'll just watch things from here. I just don't think I can extract the full 2166 potential.

^ Not sure if you are too far along in the process, but try to capture some real world examples of tasks and such before and after your overclock so that people can see just how significant or insignificant that all of the effort involved with overclocking can make.

So new highwater mark hit @ 4.58mhz. Ran my WEI and it's not reflective of my crossfired 5770's.

Ok Brother Bring that V-core down also you need to update that Cpu-z i was wondering why i didnt see a bus speed correct the CPU-z you might be giving to much juice

Seriously take a look version 1.60 x64 you are using version 1.58

Backed it down and now I'm in the 1.440v in CPUZ 1.60, you think I should back down a bit more.

when was your last Bios update that is a huge offset im running 1.449 and the droop goes to 1.41 idle 1.43-1.42 during heavy use never hit the 1.44 but close to it

you shouldn't have to punch that much juice in im thinking you can bring it down and see how stable it is at the v-vore's i typed in if it BSOD then up it but that does not look right

Considering there are 4 types of 8120's out there maybe your's does not need that much juice what was the original v-core to begin with if it was already round 1.38 1.40 then you should be able to clock it high and increase the v-core just a tad

Just saying from here you are overvolting it the standard for just reaching 4.5 is 1.45 v-core you have exceeded that lol your chip could possible do 5 Ghz

Well new snip mine is on target off set from 1.449 using 1.42 vcore so as you can see my offset is very minor and it should reflect the same on yours

I'm upgraded to 1.14 on the bios. This chip is very stable and my source of shut downs prior was likely due to my ram settings but so I can't currently get all of the 2133 it's still a very impressive set up. I'll keep playing with lowering my vcore and see what I yield.

Goodjob maybe that was a need I did another update about 2 weeks ago for better overclock stability im guessing that is what you got as well

Have you checked to see if there is a BIOS update available? My motherboard was only AM3 when I bought it, but the last BIOS makes it AM3+
