My other monitor seem to work - but is just black screen

Hey! First off, I'm new here, and have no idea if I posted in the right topic ._. But I hope it's okay.

I'd really like to setup dual monitor, I've watched tutorials, readt n' stuff, and something seems to work here. I can move my mouse to the other monitor, and a window & stuff, but it's just black. I'm not a computer pro, not even close - but I know that I use that blue cable.

I have an old PC, but new parts & graphic card, which should support dual monitors. I use an Asus 21 thumb screen, with HDMI, but with an white big thing in the end (the one that goes into the computer). The other screen which I wish to connect is an old Dell screen. I've tried with 3 different screens - all the same problem. It seems like they're connected, and it says too - but the screen remains black on all 3 of them. All 3 were the same Dell screens.

First, welcome! This is a fantastic community. While we might only be on track 99.997% of the time, everyone here genuinely wants to help.

Dual monitors work if you video adapter support two monitors, of course most do these days.

Did you try dragging a window from screen to screen? I ask because you said you can see your mouse on that monitor. I use dual monitors all the time and the second monitor is black if I have nothing moved to it.

Also, there are various display modes, mirroring or otherwise.
Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Display > Screen Resolution
From here you can change the appearance, organization and virtual location of your displays.

Right click the desktop, choose screen resolution, make sure you have extend this display. You should at least have the same picture on both monitors. Unplug the other monitor and see if you get a picture on the Dell.

Your second monitor should not be black, choose either duplicate this display or extend this display. ( It makes no sense to choose duplicate this display )

You can use DisplayFusion to put different wallpaper on each monitor.

Traditionally the easiest way to access dual monitors is to hold down the Win-key rb:
Then while holding it down press the P key,
Then you'll see the options available of which Duplicate is pretty common to use but extend is also pretty common,
