Greetings from Malaysia. Hi, I'm a newly registered member. Am I glad to have stumbled on this great site where I can browse and read lots of interesting stuff on Win 7. I was looking for a solution to this strange problem that I recently had and then discovered that one can freely ask for help at SF. Well, the problem I have has never happened before and I'm mystified as to the cause.

When I press down the PC power button (Acer Aspire X-1470) in the morning, it refuses to power up and the blue light doesn't light up as it would previously. But when I pull out the cables for the 2 ext hard drives and hit the button again, it would. Sometimes this still won't power up the PC until I also pull out the cable for the mouse too. After that, I can reinsert the 2 or 3 cables back into the USB ports and move on. The PC works fine once it's powered up. But doing this every morning is kind of annoying. Can someone please explain what's going on and help me to fix this ... I believe it has something to do with the Win 7 multicard USB device 6.1.7600.16385 but this is just a hunch. I'm not a computer geek or tech-savvy but would welcome any simple, straightforward tips on how to go about fixing the problem. Thanks a million, folks!

Welcome to the forum. First step is to unplug all accessories and see if it starts normal then add one back at a time until it fails hopefully showing the problem. I would suspect the power supply if you have another power unit try that

thanks for the welcome note & tip - not sure if I understood what you said. Did you mean moving the CPU to another spot and connecting it to another power point?

What is odd is that it would only power up if I unplugged the two external drives during the powering up. Initially unplugging just the Samsung ext hard drive was all that was needed. Then I found that that was not enough and that I had to also unplug the Western Digital hard drive too before I could get the PC to power up. A few days after that, I found that unplugging both during powering up didn't work either and I had to unplug the mouse too before the PC kicks in. Dunno what I'll have to unplug next to get it start, if it turns out that unplugging all the three accessories (mouse + 2 ext hard drives) doesn't work out  Anyway, I'll try out your suggestion and see how it goes. Thanks! :-)

Internal power supply may not have nearly enough wattage to efficiently run all internal stuff and all external stuff, a power supply with more or much more wattage is very likely called for.

I have an Acer Mini Desktop very similar to that one in question. The internal power supply was blown on mine when it was given to me by a customer of mine. It was an extremely LOW wattage power supply, and was barely big enough to power the internal HD, ram and DVD.

I had to go ON-Line to find a replacement, and I bought the Highest Wattage PSU that I could find. It was almost Double the wattage of the OEM PSU.

The little PC is running Great today, with its new PSU. I just don't add a lot of external/optional devices.

Changing that internal PSU can be a real chore, so get an expert to do it for you.

Good Luck,

Good to know - thanks for the explanation. Looks like samuria and Roland J S also said the same too. Thanx folks!
