I've installed a brand new printer & it was working fine for a while, but now it keeps disappearing & I'm not able to print. I've tried restarting but that just makes things worse.

I checked devices & printers, but its not even listed any more?

The first thing I would do is remove the software, unplug the usb from the computer, and reinstall the software following the directions it gives.
It sounds like a usb print port issue. It's usually easily fixed with a software reinstall
I would suggest grabbing the latest version off the manufacturer's website.

Thats the thing, I've already done that & it fixed it for a little bit, but then it did it again.

I've recently rebooted from a paragon backup, but it was a complete successful restore & the printer is a new addition to that & I'm pretty sure I have the most up to date.

But I have an HP Officejet 6500 Wireless & am running it via the wireless option through my N network. It works fine through the network, but its the computer itself/windows that drops the printer from its devices.

Only other thing that occurs is a power issue, either the computer is sleeping the unused usb port. Or the printer's low power state is dropping it off the list of connected devices.

I'm sure the printer has some form of sleep mode, its a new printer, so I'm not sure exactly, but I've tried to power off/power on the printer & it still is giving me issues printing & the only way to fix it is to re-add the printer as a new device - a HUGE pain every time I want to print.

Anyone have any other ideas on what the issue might be?

Thanks.

In your power management is it suspending usb?

go into power options in the control panel.
change plan settings
then click change advanced
expand usb and check that Usb selective suspend is disabled.

this change seems to actually solve quite a few usb device issues.

I will check that now, but remember, my printer is wireless & isnt hooked up via USB, but through my router wirelessly.

Does that change things?

This worked on my friend's computer, give it a try.

Click on Start. Type Run in Search. Select Run.
Type services.msc, Press OK.
Look for a service called HP CUE DeviceDiscovery Service.
Right-click on it and select Properties.
Stop the Service and change the Startup type to Disabled.
Hit Apply and OK.

Good Luck!!

same problem

I know this post was over a year ago. But I am having the same issues. And wondering if it might have something to do with my router or ethernet cord?
