I'm having the same problem. I'm running a gtx 680 4gb with the latest drivers on an asus rampage iv extreme using the hdmi out of the video card to my receiver. It shows in windows that it is connected to my integra dtc-9.8 and I get a picture and multichannel sound. When I go to play a game I get multichannel sound but there is constant crackling which make it unlistenable. I'm convinced this is an NVIDIA issue and it shouldn't have anything to do with anything else hooked up to the computer (all I have is the video card and a usb keyboard and mouse.) It seems like the port isn't powerful enough to push a strong enough signal for the 5.1 audio and the video, at least that's what it seems like. If anyone has figured out this issue please please reply. thanks

Sound crackling and popping is a frequent problem posted here and in other forums.

Have you checked the regular PC sound system (not the HDMI/Video sound) to see if you get the noise there?

There is no "one fix" for the problem. Some of it is caused by drivers and some by other things such as wi-fi. First suggestion is to update the Video card drivers (as you apparently have an NVIDIA video card get the latest from NVIDIA). If you have a wi-fi adapter, disable that.
