My touchpad Driver, and issues.....

So I have an HP Elite Book 8730w and when I started using the system I couldn't access any controls for my touchpad(I wanted them disabled. So I went to this site and tried to get help.... http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/151876-where-do-i-locate-toushpad-settings.html .........It was reccomended that I download a new driver to get the options, so I did this and even though I now had options, they would not take and whenever I clicked on the mouse button it would say I had two touchpad drivers neither of which I could operate. So I tried uninstalling both of them and now the options are gone from the mouse menu, but I still have full use of the touchpad with no options........

So is there a way to uninstall all ability to use the touchpads? Is there a way to locate exactly how this touchpad is functioning, how does a touchpad operate without a touchpad, I want to disable all ability to use my touchpad.

Not sure about your model of lappy, but on my wife's Compaq it is in Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Then under Devices and Printers there is a Mouse option (link). It maybe running on a microsoft driver. I would check there first if you haven't already

Yes this is exactly where I go to uninstall it. The process goes like this, I uninstall it, I restart the laptop, then when the laptop is up and running my touchpad acts as some sort of hot key where every time I touch it(or the buttons attached) something pops, like I selected a menu or something from whatever program I am running, but I did nothing but touch the touchpad or pressed the touchpad buttons.. Though after the uninstall the mouse is no longer effected by the touchpad, the hot key situation appears in it's place.

I just want this to go away and stay away. There has to be some sort of back door program that is forcing the reinstall upon the restart. How do I delete this secret reinstall program?

Guys I apologize, I forget that you don't know I went through this process with HP customer support, and partially in another thread here. Here is the full story below, some information repeated.

I originally did not have the option to disable my driver(I went to mouse in my control panel, no option was listed). When I went to this site it was recommended I download a driver from the HP site. When I did this the option to disable appeared. It worked for a day or two, then stopped listening to the disable option. I uninstalled the new driver, then uninstalled the old driver and the touchpad was disabled for a little while. This hotkey situation appeared a week later(touchpad and buttons attached act as hotkeys for my keyboard every time I touch them).

When I uninstall my touchpad driver I am forced into a restart, and upon restart I am shown a black screen with the words no mouse found(or something similar), I press no buttons and when the laptop is fully restarted, then either the hotkey situation as mentioned in my previous post appears, or hysterically the touchpad still has use of the mouse. Now when I go back to the control panel and look at the mouse(or device manager) I see that the "PS/2 Compatible Mouse" <--(the touchpad driver)is still there.

I know it might seem initially like an easy fix, but I have posted this on two forums with still no help. I said it before and I will say it again.......Something is prompting that reinstall and I think the best bet is to find out what it is and delete that so I no longer receive the prompt. Something is scanning for the touchpad driver and I want to disable that too.

Since you're running Home Premium you won't have access to Group Policy Editor. Have you tried the second option under Device Installation Settings?

Another possibility is Microsoft has prepared a spreadsheet listing of manual changes for the Group Policy Editor. You'll need an Excel viewer either through Microsoft Office, OpenOffice, LibreOffice, etc or you could download the free Microsoft Excel Viewer.

I checked out the site and when I went to the device settings I do in fact have automatic updates turned off. Start-->Devices and Printers-->under device right click computer-->Device Installation Settings-->No, etc..--->Never install driver software from windows update......................


Already done, so nothing was changed. This must be one of the most difficult things ever.
