Solved My wifi was hacked and now web pages won't load.

About 2 weeks ago my web slowed to a crawl. After a couple of days I noticed that my wifi connection name had a '2' after it. So my husband fixed it and the next day the '2' was back. So he fixed it again this time changing the name and password.
I have done everything I can think of to fix this. All kinds of diagnostics on the computer which have found nothing. CCleaner. Malware Bytes. I have Norton on here. System restore but it would only take me back as far as the 12th and the problem started before that. It's the same on IE, Chrome and I downloaded Firefox last night and same problem. This laptop is an HP Probook that I got in February.
I would appreciate any suggestions because I am ready to throw this out the window.

The pages do load eventually but it's very slow.

Have you tried resetting your router completely? There should be instructions on how to reset your router to its factory settings. After that I would go in and change your SSID and password to whatever you want, then ensure that you do not broadcast the SSID, the option/setting will be in your router, probably on the same page where you changed your SSID. This will make it so that your router doesn't broadcast the name from your router where you connect to. The only problem is that when a new device connects to your router, they will have to manually type in the SSID (ie, they have to know it to use it).

Now, assuming this is some person getting into your wifi (which I doubt), they are probably savvy enough to find routers who are broadcasting hidden SSIDs, its actually very easy.

If this doesn't help, I would call your ISP and ask them to look into your account and see what it going on.

Edit: I would also like to add that you could make sure that only PC's you approve can connect. This is slightly more advanced but it involved only allowing certain Mac Addresses to connect to your wifi. You will need to find out your Mac address of the PC's you want access to the wifi.

I'm not sure what my husband did. He doesn't think anyone is on there now but the damage is done.
I'll pass that info along to him. This setup he has here is beyond me.

Ok this is the third time I'm trying to say thanks. Speed is better but connection keeps dropping. Needs some fine tuning still. THANKS

I'm glad I could help! Aside from calling your ISP (which is a pain) here is a link that may help with connection issues with your Wifi.
