Mysterious Noises/Music in Windows Mixer...

Hey guys needing some assistance,

Upon Windows startup, I hear music/noise/interviews (Sometimes two completely different sounds at the same time) Under the title "Windows Media Center Diagnostic" in the mixer.

Just wandering how to get rid of it. It's getting increasingly annoying. I listen to music through the Line-in which is why the levels are the same as the "Windows Media Center Diagnostic".

Sounds like you are picking up radio signals with your line input cable acting as the antenna ? Just a suggestion.

Well first you can mute that executable that is playing the sound and it should stay muted I would hope. Since you seem to be able to catch it in the act, just click the speaker button to mute or drop the slider to the bottom.

But then second, need to investigate what that is exactly. It looks like a developer tool for programming for the windows media center API. Not the kind of thing that would just randomly be installed on a persons computer. If you didn't install it yourself, the I'd be a tad suspicious that something else (malware or worse) did for it's own use (Such as spying on your media usage, microphone or web cam etc)

I'd run a malware scan and do some googling on that executable to see if it may be associated with something you installed. (Though it is a legit development tool and google is FULL of info about it for that purpose)

I thought this too as it happens with my amp but it happens upon startup and it won't go away. Muting is a temporary fix but I like to rest easy at night

I wasn't going to let adverts and misc. music play endlessly while I searched Google before coming here. I.e. I've muted but that doesn't fix the problem and searched Google (found possible fixes but none were successful for me).

Appreciate the help so far but I just don't want to get used to having to mute whatever it is every time I start up. Malware scan it is for now. I'll keep you posted.

I had this on a computer at work before , it was a trojan / malware . If you open up task manager , look for any files that look suspicious , or are using a major amount for processor when the sounds are playing . After I found out what the name of the trojan was . I searched the registry for that file and deleted it . then searched the entire computer for that file name and deleted it ..
