Solved "Mystery Data" is taking up 18GB of space on my SSD

Hey there forums! My brother has been cleaning up his SSD. And he realized there is something that he can't see on it. There is almost exactly 18GB of this "Mystery Data" on it. And he can't figure out where it is! Could someone here help us out? (And yes, we do have the hidden file option enabled)

Install TreeSize Free.
Open Control Panel, Folder Options.
Click on the View tab.
Select or unselect choices as necessary so it looks like this:

Click Apply then OK. Start TreeSize Free. Click on Scan and select the drive you want to look at.

TreeSize Free will show you where all the space is being used.

That space could be being used by:

• pagefile.sys
• hiberfil.sys

You normally can't see those files unless you do what Ztrucker suggests.

It may also be the shadowstorage. Run this command:

vssadmin list shadowstorage

Have a look how much space is allocated on C:\

We fixed it, i missed the selections that ztruker did on his folder options.

Next time you are in doubt, run WinDirStat. That tells you exactly what's on your disk - not the shadows though. For those you have to run the vssadmin command. https://windirstat.info/
