Solved Nag by AV that IE is not supported, giant nag window every 5 minutes

Last night I renewed Bitdefender Internet Security
This morning 5:20am a very large nag window tells me IE is not supported
- the nag window shows every 5 minutes and occupies 75% of the screen
IE (IMO) is a paperweight, but I appreciate a lot of calling home is done using IE hidden
-eg, Win updates, program checking for updates, etc

There are two entries on Start -> Programs

1. Internet Explorer
2. Internet Explorer (x64)

#1 is in C:\Program Files (x86)
#2 is in C:\Program Files

No listings on Add-Remove
Both IE on the PC are IE 8 v8.0.7601.17514
- this is wifes PC and she doesn't like me changing anything, not even common sense maintenance
- I know IE must be upgraded to IE11

from experience in Excel/Word 2003 VBA uses some Functions in IE
all case sensitive just to be difficult

Do I need both x86 and x64 versions ?
There are three download options on the MS webpage

English:
Windows 7 SP1 32-bit 
Windows 7 SP1 64-bit 
Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 64-bit​

There are no instructions on the MS IE update page
Q1: should I install both x86 and x64 editions (I guess the BD nags will continue if I only do one) ?
Q2: do the v11 updates/upgrades overwrite the old v8 ?

Hi bawldiggle,

This is gonna sound silly but bear with me.

Has that lappy got SP1 installed??
why - because as and when its installed it automatically offers the current IE version.
So im thinking it was either declined or SP1 is not installed.

If SP1 is not installed update to it, and IE11 will be offerred plus a load of others.
(SP1 is required for IE11)
Otherwise
go to windows updates reset to automatically download install,
or in the windowsupdate GUI, the top left hand side, click on the restore hidden updates.
(x64 version as that's for 64bit OS)

IE8 will be kept but not used, its part of the core installation and cannot be removed as such

SP1 was part of the original install ( a custom desktop 3 years ago)
- this machine exhibits flutters of instability, wife is happy with "flutters" but I suspect OS needs a fresh re-install.
C:\ is an SSD and D:\ drive I just replaced, CrystalDisk gave a warning report

Add Remove does not list IE at all.
- I don't use IE, so it is just a virtual paperweight
On Start -> Programs there were two versions of IE both captioned "Internet Explorer"
- by RClicking each of those Program items -> Properties discovered one is x64 and the other is x86

1. C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
2. C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer

Downloaded both x64 and x86 Internet Explorer 11 (Offline installer) onto desktop.
Closed everything including IE, Win-Exp, not even a TXT file open

Ran x64 IE offline installer.
Using Start -> Programs ... IE was still listed as two as items, but one was now at the end of the "Programs" list.

Ran the "new" list item, to open IE ... and in "About Internet Explorer" ... IE-11 (x64)
Ran the older list item, to open IE ... and ...IE-11 (x86)
- so I did not have to run the x86 Offline Installer to upgrade IE-8 (x86)

Rebooted and no more nags.

On the domestic front other half is a gem. She is a good one, my best friend.
But unfortunately she doesn't understand that like cars, PCs need maintenance, and she doesn't like change.
Q: ? Maybe that is why she likes having me around ... I'm ...

FYI
the list you get from all programs is just a list - any item can be added/removed.

IE11 is classified as a feature, and you can turn it Off.

from Programs/features GUI, top left turn features on/off, a smaller window will open uncheck IE11.

Thanks Roy,

I will leave IE as it is.
On rare occasions I use IE if web-pages don't render in my preferred browser.
So far IE has confirmed my suspicions of (some) dud, badly developed web-pages
