NAS units cannot be found

I have two NAS units (Drobo FS) that have disappeared off my network. I am running Windows 7.

Both my computer and the two Drobos are physically connected to my wireless router.

I just changed routers. I was using a D-Link DIR 655 and switched to one of the new Apple Time Capsule Extremes. I am wondering if there could be a conflict between the Windows or Norton firewall settings on my computer with that of the Apple router.

What is interesting is that all my WiFi works with all my wireless devices. I can recognize all of these wireless devices on my Home Network. But I cannot find the two NAS units that I have physically connected to the router. I cannot discover them wirelessly either.

Any ideas?

Where are you expecting to view these devices? Under Network? Are you trying to access the UNC path? If so are you using hostname or IP address?

I would look into what the workgroup has been configured on the NAS box since that needs to be the same for Windows to see it under the network tab in explorer.

These used to show up in my network. Or I could type in the following:

\\Drobo FS-1\Public\
\\Drobo FS-2\Public\

This does yield a result in Windows.

I manage the Drobos using their Drobo Dashboard software. I use this on both my Mac (wireless) and a PC that is physically connected to the router that the Drobos are connected to. I used to also see the Drobos under Shared in the Mac Finder Window or under the Network heading in Windows 7 Explorer.

Drobo notes that when using OS Mountain Lion for Mac that you have to ensure that DDService and DDServied64 are Allowed under Security and Privacy and then Firewall. I have done this but the Dashboard on the Mac does not recognize the Drobos.

I'd have to point to the most likely problem >Norton

And I'd take the DIR-655 over just about any other router as a gateway then set up the Apple extreme as a secondary router so you can use the back up and dual band wireless.

To be clear I only really care about accessing the Dobos via my PC. I only mention the Mac as I control my Apple router settings via the Mac. However, given that I cannot access the Drobos on the Mac either it makes me question whether the issue is the router itself.

This where I get a bit confused as I believe I set up my Home Network on my PC. So it is not clear to me if Norton's role in the Home Network (on the PC) is the issue for both the Mac and the PC or if the common denominator is the router.

I am worried that Apple is pushing me to use an Apple NAS option.

I have heard nothing but bad feedback on the D-link routers. This is why I switched along with my own issues with them. My home audio people really like the Apple option so I thought I would give it a try. However there clearly is an issue accessing my Drobo NAS units.

I have reached out to Apple and Drobo on this too.

The problem is that Norton can just create access rules out of nowhere, more than likely that is case here.

That particular router the DIR-655 is one of the best routers ever made although it's outdated with it's single band wireless the actual interface has more advanced networking options than pretty much any router on the planet. I'm still using the 655 as my gateway because I like the networking options even though I have an Asus AC66U dual band router it's only being used as an access point.
