NASA, SETI Prepare for the Arrival of Aliens

Even though it may sound like something that comes out of the science-fiction books, the NASA American space agency and the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) initiative, along with scientists, psychologists, ethicists, lawyers, representatives of the media and anthropologists, have recently held a three day-long workshop, trying to find ways of dealing with the issue of how people would react if they were told that aliens had been found.

And the reason they have met is not that they have already found a little green man and don't know how to break the news to the public. They have met because modern advancements in science and in monitoring technologies might soon give scientists and astronomers the possibility to discover life, no matter how small, on moons such as Titan and Europe, or even on Mars. Astronomical finds already number in the hundreds, and new ones are made almost daily.

Unless the aliens are carrying a cookbook, I doubt mass hysteria would ensue. Microbes on Europa ("Europe" is a different planet altogether) would get a couple of weeks play in the media and then everyone would get back to watching American Idol.

Well, with Movies and TV shows dealing with the possibility/existence of life on other planets like Roswell, X-Files, Star Trek, etc... I think once the news that aliens hit mainstream, people would be more curious than scared.

IMO, it would be too arrogant of man to think that we're the only ones around and besides, considering this possibility gives people something to do, it also generates jobs Over-all, it has its role in the economy.

On the other hand, as far as the computing industry goes, if these beings are truly more advanced that us, imagine if we can over clock our old P4s to 10GHz without breaking a sweat, advanced memory multipliers that dynamically adjusts to the computing needs of the programs being run as well as dynamic storage media that just keeps growing and growing. Now that will be something, eh?

The most realistic () scenarios would be:

A) We get enslaved
B) We get used for perverse alien-sex
C) We get eaten
D) We get blown up
E) We get enlsaved, sexed up, eaten and then blown up

Most likely they would take one look at us and then turn their ship around

Well if any of that stuff about someone having been here before and left actually was proven real you could figure they decided to wait to see how we would turn out in a few thousand or so. "haven't they learned anything yet?"

If they came back now and looked they would probably say:
"We don't want them out in our neighborhoods until they finally smarten up a bit whenever that is. Deploy force field barriers now please! We won't let them get past Pluto!"
