I changed wireless routers and when installing the new router I inadvertantly gave the new wireless "N" a new name. Does anyone know how to change the name and password for the "NativeWIFIDefaultProfile" please?

I tried the dialog box but you can change the password all day long and it reverts back to what it was.

I found the registry entries and changed the name but the password I could not safely determine in the registry. This causes me not to logon onto my wireless network because Win7 will only recognize and automatically logon to the "NativeWIFIDefaultProfile"!

Are you trying to change the name of the router or something within Win7. If its the router, I'd have to know the brand in order to give appropriate advice. If its something within Windows, I've never had that problem and would not be sure how to fix it either.

Clarification

I am trying to change the values that Windows 7 NativeWIFIDefaultProfile uses. Yes, inside Windows 7 and I can't see how. The dialog boxes prevent me from chaing the name and password. I did, however, search the REGISTRY and change all instances of the name but I could not determine what or where the password is stored. I don't know if that helped or not. Thanks for the try, any other thoughts?

To be honest, I'm not even sure what NativeWIFIDefaultProfile is. I found this on MSDN which might put you in the right direction :Using Native Wifi (Windows)

Are you trying to change the name and/or password for your network/router? That has to be done within the router itself. You have to type the IP address for your router into you web browser to change its settings. Most routers by a particular brand use the same IP.

I need to change Windows 7 NOT THE ROUTER. Changing the router involves changing many computers.

I'm just not sure what you are actually trying to change. If anyone was they probably would have also responded. What username and password. A little clarity would help. A google search for "NativeWIFIDefaultProfile" with quotes only shows this thread. With spaces in between the words, it appears that some people are having there unprotected routers show up under that name. Are you having trouble connecting to your router? Please include a "yes" or a "no" in your response.

Another Clarification

I can connect to the router just fine after Windows 7 trys to connect to the NativeWIFIDefaultProfile. I connect to the router by double clicking on the correct name.

Yes I have searched on Yahoo, BING, MS, MSDN, Google, Netgear and nowhere can I find a reference to the NativeWIFIDefaultProfile except as you state, to this thread.

Regardless, I have Win 7 Professional and when I connected to the old router, Win 7 (I Think) setup the NativeWIFIDefaultProfile. I can't change it, I can't delete it. Win 7 always trys to connect to it and fails. Then to get internet I have to double click the correct profile and I connect fine.

So the mystery is, why and how to get rid of it or change it?

Looking for "Native WIFI Default Profile" with quotes, I see a few different things. I've noticed a trend. Most if not all make reference to Netgear. Do you use any Netgear hardware at all?

Okay, before setting up this thread I searched Yahoo, Google, BING, Microsoft, and Netgear and I could not find a reference to help me with the NativeWIFIDefaultProfile. I moved it down, I deleted it and it came back and I changed it and it ignored my changes and reverted back. This has been going on for three months!

Yes, I do have wireless Netgear "N" gear.

I just deleted it, rebooted and it is gone. So all thanks. I guess that I just wasn't persostent enough! Thanks for all your efforts.

How do you delete the NativeWIFIDefaultProfile?

Hey there, either Petey7 or TheAudioAnalyst, I have the exact same problem as do hundreds of other Windows/Netgear users from what I can tell on the web.

I was getting excited that this forum claims it SOLVED the problem but there's no clear answer listed.

Please please define how you delete the NativeWIFIDefault Profile, as TheAudioAnalyst did before rebooting.

I'll try anything. Help please.

First off, all NEETGEAR software must be uninstalled. Before doing so, I went into Windows 7 Network panel and moved Netgear down so it wasn't primary and deleted it again.

Then editting the registry, I found all entries to the Netgear usb device and deleted them. Note that all can not be deleted because Win 7 will not let you, search by Netgear, the usb model name and Native... . I also then ran Registry Mechanic whci found some entries that were hidden - not named so they could be readily found. I also deleted the Netgear folder(s) on the C Drive - depends on the version of software and the version of the uninstall that you have if anything is left. But I deleted them all. Then I re booted. Then I ran Registry Mechanic once more and defrag'd the C Drive and rebooted. It was now gone.

When I deleted it as I stated above in an earlier post, two or three re boots later it came back. The above procedure will remove it once and for all. And it doesn't take that long really. Remember that editting the Registry can be tricky and you can destroy your computer so I would recommend making a backup copy before you start the edit procedure. I am sorry to take so lionto reply, let me know if you need any other help. Thanks!
