Hi :)

I have two W7 Ult machines. Both are set to static ips; the first machine is 192.168.1.100 (named Jeff-PC), and the second is .101 (named Jeff-101) Sharing between these is not a problem.

I have done away with the second machine, and have made the first my second. I have also built a new machine, which will be the first. Both have unique MS lic #s. Trust me, there is a reason to do it this way, as opposed to making the new build the second machine.

The second machine (what used to be the first) is now 192.168.1.101, and the first (new build) is .100

I can access the internet on both machines; both are plugged into the same linksys wired router.

I can not access the second machine from the first.

If in the run cmd box of the .100 machine, I type in \\192.168.1.101 - I get a message saying that the address is not accessible.

Not being sure if this due to the fact that they both have the same name, I tried changing the name of .101 using run>lusrmgr.msc, and although I saw the name change in the console, it still showed as the old name (Jeff-PC) if I accessed Control Panel\System and Security\System

So, I clicked on "Change Settings" there, and was able to change the name to Jeff-101. I then rebooted.

But still, I get the same error. Where else should I look?

Thanks in advance.

This is what my net/shar center look like on both machines:

More info:

Turns out, I can access .101 if I access MyComputer > Network, or if in the run cmd box I type: \\JEFF-101

And I can access .100 from .101 the same way.

But why does \\192.168.1.101 still not work?

To connect to a folder you need a share setup and you enter that to go directly to the share you cant go to the pc if sharing is off or blocked by firewall

So what exactly are you trying to connect to?

... :/

I can access .101 if I access MyComputer > Network, or if in the run cmd box I type: \\JEFF-101

And I can access .100 from .101 the same way.

But why does \\192.168.1.101 still not work like it used to?
