Need a new keyboard

I personally use the Steelseries 6Gv2 (link to Newegg for reference).

The keyboard is completely mechanical using Cherry MX Black switches, has media control functionality, and does not require any special drivers that could potentially fudge up.

I have ordered the red mx ducky keyboard going to stick with red for now and later on hopefully more mechanical keyboards will be available here in sweden when it gets time to exchange that keyboard

My Shine has MX Blacks and the FN+Media keys are very handy. It's a great FPS deck and yep - I love the plug and play aspect. Generic drivers = no software hassle

No drivers for a keyboard is cool, I belive the drivers for Corsairs keyboard and mouse suck pretty hard, they are still only beta drivers and they have been out for almost 1 year now, so im glad corsair tech support is so good because I will get my money back. and I will definitely write what I think of it, it should be here on thursday/friday as latest I believe.

I dont play FPS games, RPG and RTS is my type of games, and I listen to webradio so all I need would be stop and play but rainmeter can handle that quick and I belive foobar have hotkeys for that too havent looked into it, will be fun when I get the keyboard

So do you agree/disagree it looks better in real life than in pics?

And how does the build quality compare to the K90 - feels more solid overall?

Basically, initial impressions - are you happy, disappointed or not sure yet?

lol, yeah - it it is bright. I use either the 1st or 2nd level - any higher than that is just too much. (although it makes for a good 'night light' )

It looks much better in person, the pictures I saw made the keyboard look like those cheap keyboards, but to my surprise its very stable and durable it even got some weight to it and even thou it seem to be a better or harder type of plastic the aluminium frame on the K90 feels a bit better and a bit nicer IMO but so far I cant complain about this other then that when I put the computer to power saving mode the keyboard still lights up not sure if that is because I use the PS2 adapter, I had the serial thing in bios turned of so it took me quite some while to figure out what was wrong, and I have 4 different numbers to choose from not sure if it matters which one I use.

And im still getting used to it the K90 is larger then a normal keyboard and this Ducky keyboard is a bit smaller but im happy with it and no drivers for it ^^ so far im happy about it

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised when I got my first one. I too was a bit dubious about the looks, but hands on and sturdy feel does make up for it. I can understand the preference of the Aluminium though.

The lights remaining on when using the PS/2 adapter is normal. It's not something that occurs with USB. That and the fact every time you restart/turn on the PC you have to re-enable the back lighting is a minor annoyance, but I'm so used to it - I didn't even think to mention it

I also tend to use both the plastic dust protector and the cloth bag to cover it it up when not in use.

As for the 4 numbers to choose from, I presume you are referring to the top right? Those alter the repeat key function. I personally tend to use x2 when playing FPS with my Black Switch because it makes responses feel more 'snappy'. I can't use any higher than x2 though. The repeat key function is only available via ps/2 mode. 99% of the time, x1 is perfectly fine. That's simply a personal preference.


As for size, you'll adapt pretty quickly. I used to have a Saitek Cyborg Commando "gaming key board" and that thing was massive with all the macro keys. (bloody awful POS that thing was ) Who knows, you might even get the itch for a TKL deck down the track

I'm really glad you're happy with it so far (It's rare to find those are disappointed with their first 'proper' mechanical board).

Ya I ment those increase repeat buttons, I tried it out but since I mainly play MMO and RTS games it felt like they was not really needed so went back to using USB mode so the keyboard lights would turn off, not sure how good it is for it to light up all the time when using the PS2 adapter

Never heard of TKL so if you can please tell me what it is
