Hello forum,

I have people around me that like to use my computer when I am not in front of it. Most of the time when I walk away from it I put it into sleep mode or do something to protect it... I have sleep mode set for 20 mins so if it's not active it protects itself... anyway sometimes I forget!

Does anyone know of a way I can have the computer auto protect itself every 5 mins popping up a window that says enter password or better still click on an icon or something to let it know I am the correct user?

Many thanks for any suggestions.

First of all your user account MUST have a secure password, with the usual requirements (difficult to guess, not shared with anyone, preferably long with mixed symbols, etc).

Then setup a screensaver for your account, that popups automatically after 5 minutes of inactivity, and be sure to tick the option to show login screen to exit it, so that it requires the password. The net effect is that after 5 minutes (or whatever time you like) of not touching anything, a screensaver will appear, and only a password can exit it.

Without waiting for the screensaver to popup, do as Golden says, lock the computer yourself. Windows + L is the shortcut, in addition to the previous post.
