I have a Dell Precision 450 Workstation with Dual Xeon 3.06Ghz processors, 4GB RAM and an AGP PRO video slot. I was running XP Pro on it, but with End-of-Life looming, thought I had better upgrade it. Upgraded first to Vista Business in-place in order to preserve the environment, and then immediately upgraded to Windows 7 Pro 32, installed SP1 and performed all the updates.

The problem is with my video card. It is an Nvidia Quadro NVS 280 SD driving 2 DVI connections to a pair of iH283 28" displays at 1920x1200. However, I quickly started having BSODs indicating a problem with NV4_MINI.SYS:

NV4_MINI.SYS

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 50
BCP1: FCEA8D08
BCP2: 00000000
BCP3: 82053388
BCP4: 00000002
OS Version: 6_1_7601
Service Pack: 1_0
Product: 256_1

The current driver that kind of works between BSODs is V9.1.3.6, which is the W2K/XP driver I was using before. I tried to use the Vista driver V96.85, but couldn't get the Dual Monitors at 1920x1200 resolution to work.

So the question is, is there some way to get the Quadro NVS 280 to work, or will I have to change to a different board? And if change is required, what W7 supported board would be recommended? I already tried a Radeon X1600 Pro board that I had in another system, but couldn't get it to even display POST.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Unfortunately, I don't see a dual DVI AGP card listed at either Tiger or Newegg... Each of them only offer 5 AGP 512MB cards, and there's no indication on either site as to W7 compatability - more research will be needed. I was hoping that someone would have a specific suggestion of a card that would meet the criteria I provided:
  • Windows 7 32bit supported driver
  • AGP PRO slot supported
  • Dual DVI
  • 1920x1200 resolution
Thanks,
Andy

Thanks very much for the advice, Indianatone. We'll give that a try!
