When we are in Germany, my wife would like to watch her sods on ABC,CBS and NBC via the internet. Unfortunately that is not possible with a German IP address (access denied).

I was wondering whether I could beat the system with a US proxy. But I have not the faintest clue how I would make that to work and whether it would work at all. Any advice ??

Just a dumb thought.

Could you remote access through your computer you have in Florida.

Can't help with proxy. I have never used it.

Spotflux?

I live in the UK but when I run Spotflux VPN it gives me a US ip address. I'm not entirely sure if it will work for you and do what you need it to do but you might work!

I don't think Tor is suitable - due to how Tor works, your apparent location could be anywhere and the OP needs to appear to be in the US. Also re: video streams, the default Tor setting has Flash disabled since that plugin can reveal location (despite using Tor). You can enable Flash in the settings.

Tor seemed to work when testing German TV from the US (which give the same problem as the other way). But then I ran into the Flash problem and I could not find the setting in Preferences.

See, I only knew a little about Tor ... now I know a little more ;)
Thanks badcrc!

Chris (Callender) always has some great tools - see if spotflux gets you where you need to be.

This should be no problem, using a VPN. I'm cheap so I use the free ones. For the Record, TOR isn't a particularly good solution here. Using the onion browser will cause you to lose flash (as you noticed) and TOR really isn't set up for that. It's not so much a proxy as an anonymity tool. So you'll almost never get the bandwith you need to watch movies without lots and lots of buffering (that's if you can work around the flash issue in the first place).

I used to use HotspotShield but ADWcleaner almost always removes it as adware.

I moved to Cyberghost VPN and have had no issues since then. Install, change proxy to US, and it works like a charm. Paying for a VPN isn't expensive either, but again I'm cheap. :p
Five Best VPN Service Providers

I travel a lot, and some of the sites won't work properly out of the country. Google used to give the most hellish time. Couldn't access the proper play store; Google voice would go wonky on me. But the worst by far was PayPal. Apparently PayPal thought some Caribbean scammer had gotten hold of my account and locked me out, which triggered an alert at BOA and they locked me out too.

So here I am, trying to pay for two full shopping carts of groceries at the supermarket in a strange country (the manager escorts me, my girlfriend, and our two shopping carts to the front of the store after they decline my card for the 3rd time and I can see security "surreptitiously" moving closer) and scrambling to try to find a number to PayPal and my bank both, while people look on and my girlfriend tries to pretend she's not embarrassed though her face is red as red can be.

Took about 45 mins to sort that out, but most of that was waiting on hold for customer service to pick up. Also very glad BOA allowed me to call collect, because my 30 min call with PayPal emptied the "credit" on my local cellphone. That could very well have been a disaster.

This is a very good summary of the situation. Thank you. And you are right - the Google Playstore is another problem. But I never had problems with Google Voice.
