Need Alternative for Zone Alarm

I have used Zone Alarm Security Suite for about ten years. Their yearly extention to keep the product current was only $9.95. Next year it will be $39.95 which is a pretty big jump. I am going to switch. Can some of you tell me a good product that would have Firewall, Anti-Spam, Anti-Virus, the works? Thanks,

MSE is fine. I do not like the lack of an email scanner. I can readily recommend MSE or Avast (free), which I am currently using. I use Malwarebytes as an on demand scanner which I run about once a week. I am currently using Comodo Firewall; but I am about to go to Windows Firewall with Windows Firewall Control and give that a try. We have seen BSOD's caused by just about every security suite out there.

Personally i like Avast never had any issues so far. Windows Firewall is more that enough unlike other versions of Windows this version Windows Firewall is much better.

I do not recommend Norton. We have seen plenty of BSOD's where Norton was involved. Most security suites will cause BSOD's with Win 7 and there are valid reasons for this. It has to do with Win 7's own security levels.

The number of BSODs caused by Norton must be relatively few compared to the millions of us that use it without problems.

You can ensure it does not cause problems on your system and suits you using the 90 day trial.

I have no idea of the number of users of Norton with Win 7 who have had BSOD's vs. the number who use it on Windows 7 who haven't. I am not anti Norton. I simply stated a fact: Norton is a known cause of BSOD's on some, not all, Win 7 systems as are most third party security suites, period. I am sure the manufacturers will get it right; but they have not done so yet. And as I said, there are valid reason for this. I do know that from what I have seen, I cannot recommend Norton to anyone for Win 7. I am not shooting your favorite product down nor am I going to get into a urinating contest over it. The OP asked for recommendations, you gave him yours, and I gave him mine. I cannot recommend something that has the potential to cause conflicts and crashes. Norton and other third party products have caused trouble in networking also.

All I meant was to imply that, I think, BSODs (or any other conflict/bug) on anyone's but your own computer should not be a reason to stay away from a piece of software. Every software has problems, I bet.

That was the point of my post. I never recommended Norton.

Avast! 5 has caused BSODs on Windows 7 as well as other problems . Are you not aware of them?

All of the AV's create BSOD's at one time or another.
Most of the time the BSOD's are caused by something else and not just the AV program.
So let's put this baby to bed and get in there and help someone. This horse is DEAD! IMHO

One more thought. Seems to me that Microsoft should know what's best for its own operating system. Key word: should. With that in mind, I feel comfortable using MSE as my primary anti-malware suite, supplemented by Avast free, both running their real-time scans simultaneously. (Because it's been shown they play nice together.) I find the default Windows firewall to be more than adequate. I supplement these tools with weekly on-demand scans with Malwarebytes free and SuperAntispyware free.

But my most effective "tool" is daily backups and a weekly system image. In the event malware gets through my defenses, I'm about 20 minutes away from restoring my machine to a like new condition. No worries. To each his (or her) own.

Typical of Comodo not to mention "Insight Protection, SONAR
Protection, and Automatic Live Update were turned off" for Norton. Pointless test of Norton (except to start another Comodo drama or a continuation of the "Comodo vs. Symantec" one).

It's also interesting to note that NIS did not let any data leak but CIS did.
