Need AudioSHELL like program

Hello i would need a program that can show the Mp3 TAG ID when i hold the mouse over it.. Just like audio shell (ggogle it). I wonder if you guys know any? (audioShell is not working winth 64 bit systems) - showing bitrate, duration, year, album, artist, genre..

The mouse hover thing is called a Tooltip handler. The reason it's not working is it's a 32 bit dll that hooks into 32 bit explorer. x64 uses a 64 bit explorer.

I wrote a small utility for myself that opens the 32 bit shell so that many of these 32 bit shell extensions will work on x64. Read the readme.txt because sometimes it won't work on Windows7 64 bit. I've been using it fine on Vista64. Anyway, I guess if it does work for you then you don't really need to read the readme.

The idea is, use Half Shell to open a 32 bit explorer window, then the 32 bit shell stuff, like this Tooltip, may work:

If it doesn't work for you all you have to do is close the app and delete the folder. It doesn't change any registry settings.

Just out of curiosity can you run it again then look in Task Manager and see if under Processes => Image Name there's one that says "explorer.exe *32" with the *32 at the end?

If not then the hard link for explorer.exe under SysWow64 folder points to a 64 bit explorer.

I don't get why all of a sudden this work-around doesn't work anymore. Unless there's going to be a slew of 64 bit compilers for sale soon.

edit: just to be sure, when you say "ran it" do you mean you opened an explorer window by highlighting a folder and hitting Shift-Enter and then tried in that folder to see the tooltip? Just want to make sure the communication isn't crossed.

Pretty bizarre. I guess that's why they favor "undocumented" functions. So they can change 'em on whim. Sorry it didn't work for you.

If you are adventurous you could try removing the hard link and putting in a real explorer.exe file from a real Windows7 32 bit. I don't have Win7 64 bit to find out what happens then.

edit: the usual provisos apply. Don't experiment unless you can restore the current state of your system.. yadda yadda.

I know it's not a Tooltip but if they are getting 64 bit stuff to work maybe eventually they'll have a solution.

The last reply was about a year ago, but i'm having the same issue's. I just got a Windows 7 x64 laptop for my b-day & i was very happy that most of my programs work. but I really need audioshell to work for my x64 to work, i've read some these threads I even downloaded Halfshell that someone suggest & it didn't work. I'm tryin very hard to figure out a while how to get a x32 shell extention to work on a x64 I understand that most x32 should work on a x64 but hey it's one those weird cases. I also sent several e-mails to softpointer the developers of audioshell and no responce, I hate the stand alone programs like mp3tag, tagandrename, etc. can anyone that actually know can reply....Thanks...

I found this thread because I have recently switched to Windows 7 after several years of using Audioshell on XP. I downloaded Audioshell on the new PC after a misleading web article headline which mentioned both Audioshell AND Windows 7. However, as noted in this thread it doesn't run under Win 7.

But I also run Virtual XP on the new Win 7 PC - see Microsoft website for details of this excellent utility. So I opened up the Virtual XP window, fired up Windows Explorer, but still no Audioshell right click info. So as a last resort I uninstalled Audioshell and downloaded and installed it FROM WITHIN THE VIRTUAL XP WINDOW. This worked and I now have Audioshell running, but only, of course, from within the virtual XP machine. It's a little bit of a pain, but we Audioshell addicts have to get our fix somehow ...

It might be worth mentioning that before I discovered Audioshell (and what actually made me look for a program like Audioshell) I was using dBpoweramp and this had (and still does have) a utility which is essentially what Audioshell provides.

I've just installed dBpoweramp so I can get my rollover info again, but I think once the trial has ended you may loose this functionality. Unfortunately I can't find info on what functionality you lose when the trial expires and can't remember what happened at the end of the trial when I was using dBpoweramp years ago. It used to be more 'free with a trial of extra benefits that will cost you' rather than 'trial', I hope that makes some sort of sense to you.

If you want to know the results as to whether I still get rollover info when the trial expires, then drop us a line on this string in 21 days. I'm hoping that it was just the right click editing functionality that I lost at the end of the trial when I was using it all that time ago, and if it was, that this is still the case.

Audioshell's such a simple, convenient and useful little utility. I find it hard to comprehend why everybody who is involved in any sort tag/audio conversion programming doesn't just provide the utility with their programs.

I've just found the dBpoweramp page that gives info in what you get with the free version. It says you get 'Shell Integration & Helpers' sounds good.

Hmm.

DBPoweramp page says that "Technical Shell Columns & Popup Details" are in the chargeable ie Reference version.. Or does this refer to something other than the Audioshell feature we have been discussing?
