Solved Need BRINK: NTLDR with User folder in another HDD

Can someone map out for me the steps for the following to be workable.

Cdrive = Win7 OS
Fdrive = User Folder

So far all is fine. Need to clone Cdrive disk for a backup (Macrium reflect).

After cloning, the cloned Cdrive will work only if I disconnect Fdrive. It creates a new desktop on initial boot & I'm back to Cdrive inc. user folder.

Try to start cloned Cdrive with Fdrive alive & I get immediate NTLDR is Missing on booting.

Hello AaLF,

If you like, instead of moving the user profile folder to another location, you could keep the files from your (Documents, Music, etc...) in a new folder on F: instead, and use libraries.

• Create a new folder at any location you want.
• Move any files you want into the new folder.
• Include the new folder into a library of your choice.
• If you like, you can also set the new folder to be the default "save" to location for the library as well.

How do I dispose of the working Cdrive OS's offshore user folder located in F? Fortunately its empty, no action yet only created it yesterday.e.g. Registry

You could delete the user account, then delete it's folder afterwards. This way you could use another user account on C: instead.

Any plan B? I think the above means I'll have to customize my new user acct inc. installing all the programs tweeks etc

I would save the backup as an image and not a clone. It's apparently messing up the drive you've stored it on.

But if you're getting the NTLDR error then there's likely old XP boot code is on the drive which is interfering. If you have no XP on the drive then it may need wiping to get rid of the error.

Can we see a screenshot of http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...nt-post-screen-capture-image.html#post2261610 with all drives plugged in? And can you explain again a little clearer exactly what it is you did, and what you want to achieve? Is F an internal HD for storage or external?

Yo Greg, has that wave got bigger & closer since I saw your siggy last? U must b on twitter.

Simply put

• OS win7x64 is on C:drive.
• UserFolder is in F:drive
• I cloned the OS to another HDD.
• When I plug in the new HDD with newly cloned C:drive it doesn't accept the UserFolder in F:drive. And throws up NTLDR in protest at boot unless I unplug F:drive.

That's just to bring u up to date. I'm about to try the "snapshot" image software. I'm sure it'll work. If God so wills.

Sounds like System Active boot files are on F defaulting to old XP boot code when F is unplugged. Where was XP? NTLDR is an XP boot file or code.

Sounds like if I clean & wipe Drive F all will be well? (Can send pics - not near that PC for now.)

Do not do anything until we see screenshot.

You may need to move the System Active boot files to C or intended boot partition first.

For the third time where and when was XP installed on the system in the past?

Problem solved by a friend. Thanks guys. But wife says its still not exactly as it was. I'll open a new thread.
