I've been getting the BSOD non stop today. Most of the time it's STOP 0x0000003b, and has something to do with win2k.sys, but there have been other messages. I'm pretty sure it's a driver issue as I can get into safe mode with no problem, but I can't figure out what the problem is. I can't include the performance monitor report, it says error, the system cannot find the path specified.

It is Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Retail version
Hardware is about 2 weeks old, Windows installation about a week old

Let see 10 of 26 point to your video driver directly

When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver. In order to do that we recommend using Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy.


Several point to netio.sys (usually zone alarm) remove it and replace with Microsoft security essentials, and win 7's firewall.

After you get those resolved we can start to get into what is really causing the problem.

Since it boots into safe mode it is either a driver (or drivers) or an OS problem.

Have you run SFC /SCANNOW???? to verify and repair OS files?

Thanks guys. I've installed Windows Security Essentials and used Driver Sweeper to get rid of all of the old drivers. It seems to have fixed it, but I had another blue screen today. It's not like it was last week though, where it would BSOD within 5 minutes of rebooting.

Looks like I spoke too soon. BSOD 3 times today, once was during SFC /SCANNOW. I tried opening the dump files, most of them say the problem is ntfs.sys. I have ran Furmark and Prime95 before, and there were no problems. As soon as I can get it running long enough to try again, I will do the tests again. Attached are my new dump files.

I was running Catalyst Control Center 10.9 drivers before, and since I've been running 10.4, and there are no mentions of ATI in the new dump files. Also I was using avast! before I installed Microsoft Security Essentials.

Edit: I can't run SFC /SCANNOW. Even in safe mode, it BSODs at 77% with the ntfs.sys error.

Yes, due to the mention of NTFS.sys you need to check your hard drive

First run chkdsk

START -> type cmd.exe -> Right-click -> run as admin -> type chkdsk /r /f -> Press Y at prompt -> restart computer.

Also to check the drive's physical state run SeaTools

Download SeaTools for DOS from here: SeaTools | Seagate

Follow the instructions to run it. After it has detected the drive, select Basic Tests, then Long Test and let it run.

Chkdsk and changing that driver seems to have fixed it so far.. we'll see if it still works in a couple of days. My HDD is a WD so I used their tool instead of Seatools. Ran both the standard and extended test, and no problems with it. So far no more BSOD! Thanks again.

Time to run Driver Verifier to try and get a software cause to show itself.
