My wife and I are seniors and we have lost contact with a friend who was helping us with our computers. Our questions are very basic and we prefer a simple back and forth exchange over a telephone. The forums don't seem to work as well for us.

Do you have any suggestions? Of course, we want a reputable service versus someone who might just misuse our identity information, etc. A paid service is probably necessary. Is that right?

Thanks
Jack

Is your computer still under warranty? If it is you can call the manufactures technical support.

Welcome Jack to the windows 7 forums.
Regarding local support, it might help get you someone who can help if you would let us know what city and state

that you live in. Regarding support, there are lots of different options, one being local personal computer user groups in your area. Otherwise, you might want to check out local newspapers and see if there are some locals that do what you want and won't disappoint you. By telling them exactly what you expect and them telling you what they charge up front will prevent surprises.

I have dos 6.22, wfwg 3.11, win98, 2000 and xp VHD's available for testing. MS's Virtual PC works great.
I don't know what it is like in the states but in the UK local libraries often run courses for seniors. You can get to know a lot of useful people through them.

The other thing is that Seven Forums is very welcoming to anyone of any level of experience. Don't be afraid that the people here will laugh at your basic questions. We are here to help anyone who needs it.

As the others have said word of mouth goes a long way to finding someone. Ask around and see what others have to say about who is local to you if someone is good their reputation will tell, the same way that if someone doesn't give good service people will let you know.

Why don't you give us a try with your problems, we have quite a few seniors here, I'm one myself, and you will be sure to get good advice and no one will treat you as if you are stupid for asking simple questions, we've all been there and know that not everyone is computer savvy.

I hope you find someone or a service that meets your needs and welcome to our forum we'd love to see you visit more even if it's just for a chat.;)
