Solved Need Help Accessing Mac from Windows 7 On Home Network

I'm having trouble accessing my Mac from Windows 7. My Mac shows visible in Windows Explorer, but I can't access the files/folders. File/folder sharing is enabled and both are on the same workgroup. The issue I am having is when I try to actually access the folders it is telling me I don't have permission. I can access the user folder \Aaron but anything past that it denies.

Windows never asked me for my Mac login credentials which may be the problem. All the instructions I'm finding say it should ask for them. I cannot figure out how to input them anywhere in order to gain access.

I can access my Windows machine from my Mac fine, but not the other way around. Any help is appreciated.

Did you turn on SMB sharing on the MAC?

MAC's use AFP for sharing so you need to enable SMB. The following YouTube video shows how to do this and how to get sharing between the two to work. How to share files between Windows and Mac | lynda.com - YouTube

You could also try adding the credentials from the MAC to the Windows 7 credential manager, in "Windows Credentials" via the Control Panel.

You would also need to share out which ever folders you want to be available on the Windows 7 machine.

I'm glad adding the Windows credential worked because that was my first guess before I looked around for the YouTube video's. Adding credentials there seems to also be fixing Windows server access problems.
