Need help deciding power supply

My friend is interested in buying a new psu.

His new budget is in the 50$ range and he wants a psu between 500 watts. Online retailer is not a option for him.

This is his computer specs He upgraded his video card to a GT 220. He said he's planning to upgrade the GPU, even tho the cpu is gonna be bottle neck.


Which one of these power supplies is the best for his computer and case (mid tower ATX)?

Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 500W Power Supply (RS500-PCARA3-US)

Seasonic 550ET

Thermaltake TR2 500W Power Supply ATX12V V2.2 IntelCoreTM i5 i7 W0379RU

I would ask if he ever plans on putting together a new system down the road or if he would just buy one like the HP you listed. If he is going to buy from a HP or Dell later on the choices above are all ok. If he plans to build a rig in the near future or next year I would look for better supplies and use up the 100 or even spend 120 or so and get a future proof power supply,

They are all in the same range. Like Diehrd mentioned, if he plans to build another machine sometime soon, best to get a little better like an 850 fully modular.

If not, they are all fine.

Canada comp has some good prices. I usually go to Ncix.

I highly doubt that he needs/wants a 850 watts psu. Because I highly doubt that he's gonna be buying very high end video cards and stuff

The motherboard looks standard - 24 pin ATX power connector, 4 pin +12V CPU connector. (Those are the only power connections to the motherboard in a normal system. Some boards use an 8 pin +12V connector. Most power supplies support both.)
