Scenario:

Beautiful day, to have a day in, playing some Need For Speed or GTA, so i sit in my big blue chair, press the ''on'' button, and there is the 'BIOS welcome screen' and along comes the '7 logo' Great i think, to my self, i shall compl...

Problem;

... The logo freezes for more or less 30 seconds, next thing i see is the ''B(black)SOD'' seconds later the mouse disappears, and a bold writing comes up along lines of -

:''NTFS IS NOT CONSISTANT CHECK YOUR DISK NOW OR ANCEL BY PRESSING ANY BUTTON''

So i let it get checked, as you do... next thing i know is that it has "deleted / renamed / ''fixed''" 150000 odd 'index' files.And it will not boot up. I tryed to get into safe mode, Re-installed the syslem, and did some other stuff. but nothing helped. Even tryed to restore the system (Using System restore tool, went back as far as i could about 15 points).
your thoughts?

P.S. My first post sorry if i violated rules, but i seem to be the only with this problem. so desperate i rang up Microsoft and they said they had no clue what I'm on about. Thanks...

Additional Info;

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 now, and there is an amazing tool here GParted, I ran a SMART check on my two discs, my ''back up'' drive had some major digital damage, but that's not what i'm worried about, the main drive however, is said to be 100% fine, (except for the occasional trip up which is normal)...

...Before i forget too, i managed to boot into the safe mode once, i backed everything up, and discovered that everything from my library was gone, images, music, videos... all. and the graphics card driver was not responding.

Cheers for help, hope to resolve this.

Solution

Easy... what you will need, is to first of all back up all your data, grab onto a 2GB stick and some pc, and we're going to get UNetBootin , this software enables you to install linux nice and quick (i know, i know, this is a windows forum... eh...) after gottind Ubuntu 10.10 on your 2GB Stick, we boot into it, and generally back all your stuff to some external drive (i.e; External hdd or your second drive, or even another usb stick). after this, we can do a standard instalation of windows, (just as a caution pull any other un-necessary hardware out, so that you don't install in the wrong place... (like i did ; erased my back up drive and my main was un touched hehe... that was a bad day... any way...), when you are in the instalation bit, be sure to fully erase your drive, if in doubt, go back into linux and erase if from there (thats if you know your Unix commands).

I'm afraid you will have to delete all your data from the drive. Sorry :'(

Go to Seagate.com and download and run their disk tools.

If it fails the Seagate test, you may have a warranty claim.

Is your data gone from the drive or just gone from the library?

Disc is second hand, was cleaned 3/4 times in past 5/6 month, using multiple tools, such as GParted, and the windows installed default, secondly, i shall try their software but i don't think it'll work under ubuntu. and the data is only gone from library, so thank god i always have a separate "Master" folder on desktop so only lost 2 songs and 4/5 images...

I'd assume the disk is null, void, and extinct.

Did you burn Seatools to CD and boot it to run the scan? It isn't run from the OS which is why it is an ISO file.

Run Disk Check from Windows 7, or if it won't complete the Win7 Installation DVD Repair console Command Line or Repair CD. It is not sufficient to run the one which autostarted if problems persist.

I decided to perform a clean wipe of the drive after backing up all my 109GB of data.. i think it is my GPU driver that is faulty, cos after installing it from the CD tht came with it, would not boot, and had to perform a system restore within 5 minutes of completing the system instalation. Another thing is, the drive seems to be fine, full erformance figures, made a SMART check with ''SpeedFan'' got a responce of 86% good drive, i prsume there must be a virus on the cd, and i can't seem to find i online, help would be appriciated (card: Sapphire Radeon HD 6570 (2GB DDR3))

Cheers ;D

Again, you need to diagnose and possibly repair the HD using Seatools bootable CD burned with the ISO file download, not Speedfan! 86% good HD reading from any program is not sufficient and a very strong clue.

Next after doing that: How did you wipe the HD? Only Diskpart Clean or Clean All commands will clear the boot sector.

Scan the system and DVD (Win7 is on a DVD, not CD) which you say might be infected with Malwarebytes
now.

Then boot the DVd to clean reinstall following these steps to get a perfect install: Reinstalling Windows 7

Full drive clean, all boot sectors, main body, and the reserved space for my linux ''dump''... the win7 is from a usb stick... not that i installed it, the system works super fast, and i did a boot time Avast check, found 10 dangers deleted all, and i think that will do...

Cheers for help. i will shortly add the solution to this problem in the top post ;D

What was the result of the Seatool Extended HD scan you were repeatedly advised to run?

Look at the title of your Thread again.

You can call it Solved but by no means is it Solved until the HD is cleared.

We don't do sloppy work here.

err... well. i didn't get round to doing it, i'll try it over the week end if my system keeps up that is :P
