Need help.. I am not sure who or what is controlling my Laptop..

an someone please help me find out what is going on with this Dell Mini 1012. We have had problems for a long time with issues that spread to all laptops in the house. This is the last one still semi functioning. I have ran some things from safe mode and can post the logs. I ran gmer and otl. Computer is running so hot. I think someone has took control. Please help.

Did you make virus scans with as many scanners as possible.

First I would back up all data of importance. Then tell me the antivirus programs on the lappy. Then please update all av and malware then boot into safe mode without networking and run the av and malware and report the findings. Please back up all essential data as you may well be headed for a clean install as well the other PC's in the house.

Wow! It was a miracle I finally made it on here. I had to buy a tablet to get on the web. It would not let me logon. I went to register and had success. The very night I posted this ALL THE LAPTOPS in the house are showing "boot manager missing" none will boot. This is unbelievable. I don,t know what to do. This new tablet is under the same control. I don't know where to turn. Could my daughters iPhone or iPad be keeping things going? There must be an answer to why this is spreading to all internet devices. Help

This looks like a erious Windows virus. Apple and Android systems are most likely not affected. Try to find a system in some other location and create a live Linux CD or stick with which you can scan and clean the systems. E.g. those:

Scan a Windows PC for Viruses from a Ubuntu Live CD

Trinity Rescue Kit | CPR for your computer

Jacee, what can he do about it. You are the expert - I would have no clue how to clean a network. Could this nasty be sitting in the router. If yes, I would throw the router away. Routers are cheap.

The router may have been hacked and the network wide open. If there's shared files on each PC they're susceptible but even if there isn't, it's the same LAN. The first thing I'd do is disconnect the router from the ISP and reset it. (Small hole in the back.) Then go through and change the admin password and SSID key. Hopefully, someone didn't flash it with new firmware. After that, start cleaning each machine and leave it off the LAN until all the PCs are clean. Sounds like there may be root kits on all the machines with propagating malware. Each PC must be isolated until all are clean.

Ken, that sounds like a good plan. What about my idea of disposing of the router all together. I can imagine that it would be difficult to check whether the firmware was altered.

That would work too. I just bought a ASUS wireless n router from the Egg for $30. It's fast! When they say it takes 30 seconds to set up, they're close. Took me at least a minute to think up a password and SSID key.

Could the cell phones that are plugged into the a computer pass a infection to the computer and their for through the entire network?

Cell phone have been having some serious infection.

Beats me. I've got a dumb flip phone. About all I've done is upload caller pics and ring tones to it over Bluetooth.

I was just thinking that, if some donk had a program that downloaded on a cell phone but did not infect the cell phone. Then it would download the program from the cell phone to a computer the cell phone was plugged into.

Meaning; if someone isn't careful what is plugged into a network or single computer all the computer cleaning, router replacing ect. would be all for naught once the cell phone was plugged in again to the system.

If the phone is a windows phone, that is a possible scenario. With an Apple or Android phone that would be unlikely. That would be a super virus.

I would do the same, and hope there are no Rootkits involved!

You might want to restrict what is shared if you have to leave this checked "Allow bluetooth devices to find this computer"

WOW.... ALL laptops in the house became junk. When you start them up they say "Boot Manager is Missing" ALL of them! I was using a tablet given to me until now. I just bought a NEW laptop from Dell. Whatever it is seemed to follow me on my nextbook tablet. I could not keep the browser open. My husband has the same tablet with no problems. Something is seriously wrong in this house and I need to at least protect this new one. Please tell me how to best go about it. I know this may sound crazy (or at least I think so) but I feel the spreading comes from my 23 yr old daughters ipad and iphone. Here is the crazy part (don't laugh) I can tell when she gets home because the fan I keep running for whitenoise, starts playing talk or music, real softly. I have identified it to the FTA tv stations. I feel that the things she does on her devices runs through the router to all. This is a new house, 2 yrs old. It was quiet till we had the phone company install the lines so we could get internet. Since then we have gone through 4 routers. The phone company said there is interference on the line, sent someone out and they found a bridge and put a filter on. It didn't help. But the bottom line is something seems in control of our laptops other than just us. I was hesitant to take this laptop online, but that is why I wanted a laptop. I have many questions re: this new laptop but will first wait to see if anyone is still with me...
