Need help installing drivers for a sata controller card.

2 ports on my old mobo have become faulty and as such i bought this card: Komplett.dk - SDM PCIe SATA II 300 RAID 2P

in order to add some more ports but apparently it's not just a simple matter of plug in and install because windows doesn't want to accept the drivers that came with the card.

the card's model is sil3132 but even if i download the drivers from the homepage it's still a no go.

this is my mobo: MSI K9A2 Neo-F ATX AMD Motherboard - Newegg.com

the card is seated correctly and i can see in bios that the HDD is recognized but since the drivers won't install i can't access it in windows.

i dual boot between xp and 7 and both refuse to accept the designated drivers according to the manual.

also, i'm a complete noob when it comes to controller cards but i imagined it would be something as simple as driver install, plug in spare HDD and then use it for storage with no formatting/windows reinstall needed on main HDD etc.

any suggestions on what i should do?

Have you tried simply running windows update ?

yes, by windows not accepting i meant that both the cd wouldn't install and windows update couldn't find any drivers online. this was on both xp and 7. oddly enough that on the OS there are preset drivers you can manually choose but too bad that these are only for 3112 and 3512 models.

Well, according to the link you posted, there are no drivers for 7, so maybe ship it back.

edit: by the site above i meant that i navigated to my version of the card and downloaded this driver: Driver * SiI 3132 64-bit Windows BASE Driver for Windows 7 6/24/2009 1.0.15.6 397 kb

but as i mentioned in the first post that even after i downloaded the driver from its homepage, it still wouldn't work.

Try using the older version dated 12/6/2009.

nope, didn't work either. maybe i'm supposed to update my bios or it won't install at all? which is weird because my bios recognizes the HDD just fine but can't install any drivers in windows.

yes, doing exactly as listed and it still won't recognize the files when i direct it to the folder.

i'm not new to installing stuff when regular auto install doesn't work but have never come across this issue before.

if only there were a way to manually apply the files or something...

If the piece of hardware has no 7 support listed, I would return it, and btw this time get a SATA 5.0/6.0 speed card, that was 3.0, and maybe an indicator that it is rather old, was red flag to me.

[only said 5.0/6.0 because I happen to have looked at these cards in Fry's the other day and they were all 5.0]

No 7 support now seems ridiculous for a NEW part.

The Silicon drivers are not the problem, as the drivers will work in Windows 8.

I would return for replacement.
